Pee Wee's win Haliburton tourney Port Pee Wee's travelled to Haliburton for their second tour- nament of the year. In the first game they faced off against Ban- croft. Port was off to a good start but mid-way through the first stanza, Bancroft managed a goal. Port's Jer Geer split the defence and fired a bullet into the top right corner. The play was set up nicely by Laird Shrigley. 3 minutes into the 2nd, Jay Tred- way broke in and banged a Jeff Clarke shot home. Three minutes later Port's Daryl Bourgeois shot one upstairs where they store the peanut but- ter from a tremendous Tom Chambers pass. Not long after, Matt Hobbs slipped one home from a magnificent play-making set-up by Geer and Shrigley. A few minutes into the third period, Craig Laird on a splendid rap around found twine. Once again the team of Geer and Shrigley made the play hap- pen. With time winding down in the third, Jeremy Geer fired his 2nd of the game, the assists going to none other than Ian Shrigley and Matt Morris. Port went on to win this game by a score of 6-2. The team of Shrigley and Geer added up to 8 points, count them again 8 points. M.V.P. honours go to Jer Geer for a tremendous 'game. Way to go Jeremy, way to go. BRACEBRIDGE On Saturday, November 24, Port faced off against an orginiza- tion from Bracebridge. Once again, Port was ignited for the + game and came out firing. In the first stanza, Port's Jay Tredway meshed one from LeFort and King. Not long after, Tredway popped another home for his 2nd on the night. Assists earned by Zap and Shrigley. Jay Tredway added yet another marked for his 3rd goal, count them 3 goals for his hat-trick as LeFort aided him. The fans were worried as Bracebridge scored 3 times late in the third but Port came out on top four goals to Bracebridges 3. It was kind of obvious that Jay Tredway, with a hat-trick receiv- ed the MVP for Port. TRENTON Sunday, the undefeated Legionaires took on a large Tren- ton organization. Port was off to another tremendous start. The Tredster found twine all alone just 2 min. into the 1st. 2 min. later Port's Craig Laird meshed a beauty from Morris and LeFort. As the 1st stanza came to an end, Kent LeFord popped a nice one home from a neatly set up play by King and Tredway. Near the end of the 2nd period, Port's Jay King shook off the whole Trenton line and slid one through the pads from a pass by Morris and Shirgley. Early in the third it was all Port again. Tom Chambers found an open corner from a Matt Morris and Daryl Bourgeois pass. Soon after, Billy Zap scored on a virtually invisible slap shot from a hard working Craig Laird, who passed to Shrigley, who found the open Zap and you know the rest. Port, finished the game on a good note as Daryl Bourgeois tip- ped a Ian McCready shot. Matt Hobbs picked up an assist. The game ended in a 7-0 win for the good guys. Kent LeFort looked like MVP material and received the plack. CHAMPIONSHIP Port opposed the home town Haliburton organization for the tourney championship title. Sportsiand Bantams win, lose The Port Perry Sportsland Ban- tams ran their undefeated string to 6 games last week before final- ly bowing to Whitby on Saturday night. Wednesday night, Port hosted Sunderland and dominated in a 8-2 win. Mike Williams started things off early with his first of two goals after some excellent forechecking by Dave Bourgeios and Jeremy Norton. Mark Cosway followed that with an unassisted goal on a lovely rush. Scott Heasman blasted in a loose puck from the slot for the even- tual winner. Jason Coutoulakis, Todd Smart, Chad Garvock, Steve Desautels and Williams with his second rounded out the scoring in the final two periods. Bourgeois, Gar- vock and Desautels each added a pair of assists, while Coutoulakis and Lou Whitfield each had a helper. James Patterson supplied steady netminding to pick up the win, Saturday night Port hooked up with an excellent Whitby team at Iroquois Park and played an entertaining hockey game. Smart gave Port a 1-0 lead late in the first period, slipping Jason Phillips' rebound into the cage. Cosway also assisted on the goal. Eleven seconds later Chad Kearns doubled the margin when he took Smart's pass and had a centering effort deflect in behind the goalie. After Whitby had scored once, Bourgeois combined with Cosway and Williams, finishing off the rush with a nice deke to put Port up 3-1. A shorthanded goal by Whitby opened the floodgates, as they followed that with a powerplay marker to tie the game. Two more within the next 30 seconds put the game on ice, and a late tally made the final 6-3 despite the fine effort by Mike Pashley in the Port net. This was an exciting, fast game with only 5 minor penalties and non-stop action. Scugog Arena will be the scene of a rematch Monday night at 7:45.
