ta e-------------------- Jrs. lose squeaker to Markham 6-5 Sunday, November 25, the Juniors from Port Perry met up with the Junior team from Markham. The teams were even- ly matched as they kept pace with each other; goal for goal. The score bounced back and forth bet- ween the two teams throughout the game. Markham scored on some very nice plays and well placed shots. Port Perry fired away forty shots during the two periods and played a very strong game. Port Perry's first goal, assisted by Megan Marlowe and JoAnn Zaal flew off the stick of Shannon Fox who fired it past the Markham goaltender at the 9:24 mark of the first period. As the period drew to a close, with only 1:49 remaining, Karen Kett flip- ped the ring into the net on a lone effort. During the second period Val Payne scored on a valiant effort directly in front of the net. Michelle Fitzpatrick earned an assist as Val surprised the net- minder by letting go with a flip shot from a prone position on the ice surface. Port's next two goals were credited to Denna Lovering who worked hard at getting away some good shots. Val Payne and Karen Kett received assists for their efforts. The final two minutes of the game were very intense with both teams fighting hard to control the ring. Port Perry managed to maintain possession most of the time but were unable to come up with the additional goal required to tie the game. Port's five goals were just not enough to beat Markham who had managed to score Six. The following Wednesday the Juniors travelled to Pickering where they engaged in another closely fought contest. The girls continued to pick up the ring on some excellent passing plays and make their shots count. Although Port Perry had only twelve shots on net they made four of them count. The first goal of the game was scored by Port Perry with only three minutes gone in the first period. JoAnn Zaal scored the goal on a pass from Shannon Fox who had been fed the ring by Kim Poppleton. At the halfway mark of the first period Pickering tied the score but with only fifty-nine seconds remaining in the period val Payne, assisted by Denna Lovering scored the go ahead goal. Port Perry again opened the scoring in the second period as Dawn Doucette slid a pass to Jen- nifer Josephson who was able to capitalize on her scoring oppor- tunity. At the 8:47 mark of the period Lyndsay Dutkewich, assisted by Michelle Fitzpatrick, (LY Ng ye] \N] tired in goal number four which proved to be the winning goal as the final buzzer sounded with the final score standing at 4-3 in Port's favour. Tracy Pelow played a steady game between the pipes and in addition to the girls already listed above mention should go to Megan Marlowe, Jennifer Morden and Karen Kett who rounded out the lines and whose constant effort was evident throughout the game. Petites down Sunderland 12-1 On Saturday, December 1, the Port Perry Petite's returned back home to Good Old Scugog Arena after playing four long games on the road.
