Five candidate sites taken off table by Durham council on Wednesday Durham Region is out of the dump business. The waste management com- mittee has been abolished and a new one called the waste re- duction committee will take its place and will emphasize reduc- tion, reuse and recycling. The action was taken during Wednesday's regional council meeting. This means that the five can- didate long term sites, includ- ing two in Scugog Township, and the P1 contingency site in the Pickering hamlet of White- vale have been terminated by the region. Ajax councillor Pat Clark spoke for a select number of councillors who wanted to see the long-term plans suspended and not terminated.
