Kindergarten - Mrs. vanEyk: We have started our Christmas Bible Story unit, focusing on Jesus' coming, how people felt about it, and what they did about it. Today we talked about homes and read the book A House is a Home For Me. We learned our addresses and phone numbers, and practiced dialing our numbers. Next week we will be talking about our big- ger family - God's family. Grade One and Two - Mrs. Lib- by: I enjoyed talking with each of the parents last week, regarding their child's progress. This week, we are starting the Christmas Story - also, your child will need a Mexican costume to wear for culating mp ss our program. In social studies, we have finished farm animals and for the rest of the year, we will be learning about Whales. For our read-a-thon, the grade one's and two's have read-so-far -- a total of 333 books! Grades Three and Four - Miss Kolkman: "Self-control is my weak point, Miss Kolkman. It is hard to do!" I'm sure we can all identify with that comment. Through discussion, we talked about temptations and self- satisfaction and then lead into how the love for Jesus and others will help motivate us to practice self control. Angela, Elisabeth and Nicole demonstrated this fruit of the spirit last week in devotions. This week we discuss- ed joy and how believing in God's Word brings joy in our life. In science we are studying the Ocean and Water. We are just finishing up our unit on Explorers and making up a booklet from all our activity sheets. Grades Five and Six - Mrs. Ashenhurst: It was great to final- ly meet all the parents from grade five and six. We have had a suc- cessful first term. I know the rest of the year will be good too. Grades Seven and Eight - Mrs. Guetter: Last Friday the grade eight class was off to the volleyball tournament at Durham Christian High. Thank you to Mrs . Daniels for driving us there! This week in social studies we will study the reasons for the fall of New France to the British and the effects. School Interests: The second in- our series of planning workshops was held last Tuesday. We had a fruitful discussion about such areas as property, facilities, transportation, finances, student life and spirituality. Leslie Taylor, 73 Leslie James Anson Taylor entered into rest in Oshawa General Hospital on July 26, 1990 in his 74th year. He was the second son of Beatrice and Newton Taylor "and farmed in Blackstock area all his life. On June 2, 1945 he married An- nie Ashton who mourns her loss along with their three children; Alice and her husband John Ken- nedy, Lindsay; Fred and his wife Cathie, Blackstock & June and her husband Donald Bickell, Bar- rie. The funeral service was held on Monday, July 30 from Morris Funeral Chapel, Bowmanville. Rev. Dale Davis from Blackstock United Church gave a wonderful tribute to Leslie with kind words and prayer. Pallbearers were Murray Byers, Cecil Gibson, John Archer, Henry Wotten, Pat Porrill and Fred Griffen. Following the burial in Hamp- ton Cemetery, the many relatives and friends came back for lunch which was served by the Shirley Women's Institute Ladies in his retirement home which was built on the farm where he was born and farmed all his life, and is now owned and operated by his son. All Leslie's farming years he took great pride in his registered Tamworth pigs and Shorthorn cattle. In 1966 he won the Tam- worth Premier Breeder Ex- hibitors Award at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. In later years he judged at numerous fairs, Western Fair, London, On- tario, Toronto Exhibition, Roseneath, etc. Upon retirement his summers were spent in his large garden. In winter he enjoyed travelling by car to Florida for a months holi- day. His life centered around his family, home, grandchildren and neighbours. He will be sadly miss- ed by all who knew him. Correction The Port Perry Senior Citi- zens Club are holding Christ- mas Euchres on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 1:30 p.m. and Satur- day, Dec. 22 at 8 p.m. at the Latcham Centre.
