On December 15, Scugog Arena played host to the Atom House League for one of their "rare Wednesday Night' games. For the parents and fans who came out to watch these two games, they were entertained with some excellent hockey. Lake Scugog Lumber 6 Whitby Auto Wreckers 3 The first six minutes of this game was scoreless, with the play moving from end to end and both goalies having to come up "big" to keep their team in the hunt. At 3:58 of the first period, Scugog Lumber finally got things going when Aaron Levy scored unassisted to give his team the lead 1-0. Eight seconds later Aaron Levy grabbed the puck at the Auto Wreckers blueline and with two quick moves, was in all alone on the goalie and when the puck went high into the corner the scoreboard read Lake Scugog Lumber 2, Whitby Auto Wreckers 0 At 2:41 Whitby Auto Wreckers slammed a hard one by a deter- mined Scugog Lumber goalie to narrow the score to 2-1 for Scugog Lumber. Scoring this goal on a neat give and go was Chris Jamieson assisted by Jay Flet- cher. The first period ended 2-1 for Scugog Lumber. The second period was a wild B/R beat Monsma, and take over first place The Port Perry Merchant Ladies had a busy weekend play- ing 2 games in 2 nights. On Saturday they played Best Doors from Oshawa and came out on the wrong end of a 3-2 score. Once again O.T. proved fatal for the ladies as Best Doors had the only goal in O.T.. Scoring for Port was Carol Mclnerny from Allison Harriman and Kim Charron from Michele Andrews. Sunday they were up against first place Sport's Den. Port scored an early goal, Kim Char- ron from Michele Andrews and Rhonda Trapp, then held off Sports Den with some good check- ing and good goaltending to get a hard fought 1-0 victory. The Men's league had 1st place on the line as Monsma met with 2nd place B&R/Swamp. Monsma trying to break a recent 2 game losing streak had to settle for a 1-1 tie after regulation. Scott Heard from Kopie DeJong and Dale Lown had the Swampers goal. Sean McQuarrie from Steve Van Camp win championship Van Camp Novice, played four games over the weekend, coming up against a team from Peter- borough. They won this game 10 to 1. Goals went to Jason Whit- worth 4, Brent Reesor 2, Murphy Irvine 2, one each to Eric Wygerde and Mike Dalby. In the second game, Van Camp came up against a better team from Oshawa. After a hard fought game the final score was Van Camp 4 - Oshawa 2. Mark Blakley put the first one by the Oshawa goalie. Jason Whitworth got two more and Mike Dalby scored on a penalty shot. In semi-final action Van Camp came up against another strong Port team. This game was tied 1-1 all the way into the third period before Van Camp could put a few more in to take this game 4 to 1 against Port Perry Printing. Scoring in this exciting game were Jason Whitworth 2, Joel Thomson and Murphy Irvine with one each. Port Perry Printings goal was scored by Billy Carr. In the final game, Van Camp played against Re/Max from Port Perry this game was great as both teams came out skating hard. After the final period was over Van Camp won this one 3 to 0 over Re/Max. Mark Blakley scored two goals in this game while Mike Dalby added one. Ryan Woods played all four games in goal for Van Camp allowing only 4 goals all weekend. Williams for Monsma. With both teams securing a point for the regulation tie they squared off in O.T. for the extra point. B&R built up a 4-1 lead on goals by Mike Mole from Brian Pomeroy and Tim Ashbridge, Brian Pomeroy unassisted and Dan Taylor from Brian Pomeroy. Monsma fought back with 2 goals from Dave Dickson but the score ended 4-3. Game 2 had the Framer's fight their way to their 3rd straight win 3-2 over Emmerson's. Keith Dalton had 1 goal 2 assists from Framers. Other goal scorers were Mark Graham and Eric Kristensen, Terry Black had an assist. Dave Lawrence and Charlie Dennis from John Gerber replied for Emmerson. The last game was a defensive game that had Woody's come out on top 1-0. Bruce Woodrow from Pat Cooke supplied Woody's with all the offence they would need. Rick Lees recorded the shutout. The coaches were proud of the teamwork and the determination all the boys on Van Camp show- ed during the tournament. Note: All four Port Perry Novice teams (Van Camp, Port Perry Piinting, Re/Max, David's) made it to the "A" championship semi-finals with Re/Max beating David's to get in- to the finals against Van Camp. All Port's teams played well against teams from Peter- borough, Oshawa, Oakwood, Ux- bridge and Little Briatin. "Good work boys." and wooly affair as the goalies 'stood pat' shutting the door on the offence. At 3:38 of the second period, Whitby Auto Wreckers tied it up, when David Crouter put Chris Jamieson in on a one on one with Jamieson sliding the puck under a sprawling goalie to make the score 2 all. At 9:41 of the 3rd, the Lumber men got back on track with Alex Upton scoring from Mark Sauter and Aaron Levy for the go ahead goal. Ben Stevenson scored one to tie it up again for the Auto Wreckers from Jay Fletcher and Chris Orr, to make the score 3-3. At 5:08 the Lumber men scored again with Aaron Levy doing the damage from Jonathon Froats. Mark Sauter scored for Lake Scugog Lumber at 3:52 left in the game from Justin Sheehey to make the score 5-3 for Scugog Lumber. This proved to be the straw that broke the camels back because with 1:00 minutes left in the game David Crouter "blasted" on in, assisted by Justin Sheehey to make the score 6-3 for Lake Scugog Lumber against a determined Whitby Auto Wreckers club. In goal for Scugog Lumber was Doug Short and for Whitby Auto Wreckers, Ryan Puckrin. Good Hustle for Scugog Lumber was Aaron Levy and for Whitby Jay Fletcher. For Good Defensive Effort for Scugog goes to Mark Sauter and for Whitby Auto Wreckers, Glenn McCready. Atom A's, tie The Malmont Atom A's played Stouffville on home ice Friday, December 7. They battled to a 1-1 tie. This was a night of end to end action. There was no scoring in either the first or second period. Port displays a lot of ability and con- trols a lot of the play, but they aren't getting any breaks around the net. With 6 minutes into the third period, Casey Van Schagen let go with a dazzling shot to put Port on the board. Assists going to Shane Norton and Danny Robinson. Their lead was short lived when Stouffville found an open corner 3 minutes later. Good game guys. Malmont travelled to Port Hope on Sunday and came home with a 2-0 loss. Port Perry Lions Club 5 The second game of the day didn't take long getting under- way. At 9:39, Port Perry Lions scored bang, bang, to make the score 2-0 for Lions Club. Scoring for the Lions was Jeremy Gibson from Jamie Clark and Tyler Wootton scoring unassisted. The Gord Lewis goalie didn't know what hit him because all of a sudden the score was 2-0 for the Lions. At 8:37 Gord Lewis scored to narrow the gap to 2-1 for Port Lions Club on a goal by Daniel Lee, assisted by Jeff Gunn. At 7:05 the pace was still fast and furious when the Lions scored unassisted by Tyler Wootton to make the score 3-1 for Lions over Lewis Motors to end the first period of play. The second period got off to a quick start when Heather Tred- way scored from Tyler Wootton and Adam Mahaffy at the 7:00 minute mark of the second period to make the score 4-1 for the Lions. Daniel Lee scored 6:51 of the second, assisted by Jeff Gunn and Chris Jamieson to close the score to 4-2 for the Lions. Corey Branton in goal for Gord Lewis made '"'three" key saves on Shane Savage to keep the score at 4-2 for Port Perry Lions Club. The third period also got off to a quick start at 8:14 when Jeff Gunn scored, assisted by goalie Corey Branton to make the score 4-3 for Lions Club. At 6:16 Scott Hefferin tied it up from a "blast"' from the point unassisted. Scott Hefferin scored his second goal of the game to go ahead 54 at the 5:20 mark of the third period assisted by Paul Shrigley. At 4:10 Jeff Gunn scored from Nick Skerratt and Ronnie Colvin to increase the lead to 6 to 4 for Gord Lewis Motors. With just 3:19 left in the game, Gord Lewis put the game out of reach on a nice pass from the corner by Scott Hef- ferin to Mark Lunel for the goal. Port Lions tried to get back into the game but the Lewis defensive game made this impossible. With 1:23 left in the game, Jeremy Gib- son slammed on by the Gord Lewis goalie assisted by Jamie Clark. As the horn sounded, the game was over with the scoreboard reading Gord Lewis Motors 7, Port Perry Lions Club 5. In goal for Gord Lewis Motors was Corey Branton and in goal for Port Perry Lions was Brad Monsma. Good Hustle for Gord Lewis goes to Paul Shrigley and for the Lions Club, Shane Savage.
