Contest designed to name ov January b5, 1991, has been set as the date for the official opening of the pleasure skating rink on Lake Scugog. With a little co-operation from the weatherman, the large rink will be ready by that date, say members of the committee who have spent the last several weeks working on this ambi- tious project. Located just off from Palm- er Park on the Port Perry wate- front, the skating rink actually is several areas. There will be an inside oval, and a large ring around the exterior stretching well out onto Lake Scugog, as well as a small area near the shore for be- ginners and small children. The skating surface will be flooded and groomed, with shel- ters to lace on the skates in com- fort and a concession where hot drinks will be sold. And there are plans to stringlights for night skating. Just about the only thing that has not been decided is a name for this skating rink. And that's where the public comes in. The charges were laid after the results of the investigation were submitted to the Crown Attorney's Office in Newmar- et. Sgt. Garvock, 41, who lives in Scugog Township, has been a police officer since 1973 and a sergeant since 1981. Also on January 5, the pub- licis asked to bring their Christ- mas trees which will be placed around the skating areas. Plans for this large open air rink have been developed by a group of Port Perry usiness people. They are sure the rink will prove to be popular with local residents, and help to draw visi- tors to the community.
