- MoJacks send three players to all star game The Port Perry ModJacks were hoping to make it five straight wins when they took to the ice Sunday night at the Scu- gog Arena. But the Uxbridge Bruins had other ideas. In fact, the Bruins put on a pretty good dis- play of why they are leading the Central Junior C Hockey League. The visitors went on a four- goal rampage in the second pe- riod to thump the MoJacks 7-2. And they were full marks for their victory as they checked the MoJacks at every turn and played a physical game at both ends ofthe arena. The game started out in positive fashion for the Mo- Jacks as John Lally opened the scoring at 3:47. He was sent in alone on a pass from Bill Lawrenson, and waited until Bruin netminder Ian Witucki went to the ice be- fore plunking the puck into the twine. A defensive letdown by the ModJacks led to the first Bruin goal at 8:30 as Ryan Cosburn found himself all alone in front of Drew Campbell to tie the game. And the Bruins went ahead to stay at 10:30 as Paul Sinclair broke in alone to beat Campbell cleanly. The Bruins really put the game away in the second period as they tallied four times before Lally countered with his second of the game from John Harman and Warren Geer. The back-breaker for the ModJacks was a short-handed Bruin marker at 8:14 with cap- tain Greg Cook doing the dam- age on a breakaway. And it was Cook who scored the only goal of the final period, also on a breakaway in the final minute. The MoJacks struggled through much of this game. Their passing was less than effi- cient, they seemed to be moving at half speed, and when they worked into position for a shot on goal, Witucki was there to make the save. Injuries to defensemen Rob Willetts (knee) Steve Wyrozub (knee) and Chris Arsenault (an- kle) forced coach Ken Harman to move Warren Geer back to the blue line for the game, and that broke up the MoJacks scor- ing line of Geer, Harman and Menzies. The ModJacks could only muster 23 shots on goal, while the Bruins peppered Campbell with 38 pucks. This was a hard hitting hockey game and there were a couple of minor scraps, though no serious punches were thrown. The win pushed the Bruins to 38 points, six up on both Bow- manville and Lakefield, as the Central League heads down the home stretch before playoffs startin early February. SLAPSHOTS: It was a busy weekend for teams in the Cen- tral League. Lakefield dumped Bowmanville 8-5, then the Ea- gles re-bounded Sunday night for their first win in six games as they clipped the Chiefs 6-2. Uxbridge defeated Cobourg 8-6, and the Little Britain Mer- chants feasted on Cobourg Sat- urday night to the tune of 10-3. The standings after the weekend action look like this. Uxbridge 38; Lakefield 32; Bow- manville 32; Little Britain 29; Port Perry 28; Cobourg 17 and -- The Port Perry MoJacks will be sending three players to the Central League annual all star game slated for this Sat- urday afternoon at 3:00 PM in Uxbridge. ModJack defenseman Chris Arsenault who has missed most "of the season with a broken an- kle could return to action in a week or so. Rob Willetts will be out a couple of game with a banged up knee, and Steve Wyrozub, the rookie blue liner is out for an indefinite period, also with a knee injury. MoJacks have a tough schedule ahead of them this week as they travel to Bowman- ville Tuesday (Jan 8) and then host Cobourg Cougers Sunday evening with faceoff at 7:30. The League's 17th annual All Star game is set for this Sat- urday afternoon in Uxbridge with Bowmanville taking on the All Stars. Game time is 3:00 PM and tickets are available at the door. MoJack reps on the All Star squad are forwards Brad Men- zies and John Lally, and de- fenseman Rob Metcalfe. Sunday night's loss to the Bruins pretty well rules out any chance the MoJacks have to fin- ish first this season. But with ten games to play, second place is certainly within striking distance. Playoff format has the top three teams taking their pick of first-round opponents from the three teams that finish in 4th, 5th and 6th place in the stand- ings. And the top three teams get home ice advantage in the open- ing round, so the ModJacks will be gunning to move up to second or third place. First and Second teams upset Bill Bridge and Dan Carty. Game three was a tight check- ing affair that ended in a 3-3 tie between Compton and Crandell's. Counting for Compton were Terry Rose 1 goal, 1 assist, Todd Wilbur and Rick Hope 1 goal apiece. Adding assists were Larry Page 2, Larry Pilkey and Ron Compton. Scorers for Crandell's were Bob Beveridge 1 goal, 1 assist, Ken Jeffrey 1 goal, 1 assists and Dan Horner 1 goal. The fourth game was another upset as Sportsland had no trou- ble at all in defeating second place Van & Truck World 4-0. Finding the net for Sportsland were Peter Lane 2 goals, 1 assist, Mike McQuade 1 goal, 1 assist and Ed Olsen 1 goal. Helping out were Brian Callery 2 assists, Bill Qwen one, and Mark Jobb one. John Moore played a fantastic game in goal for Sportsland thus recording the shut-out.
