That was the topic of discus- sion at the recent Scugog Wom- en meeting. Well known personality Sue Johanson spoke to about 80 lo- cal women at the meeting Wednesday night. The Toronto-based teacher and lecturer of sex and sexuali- ty spoke openly and entertain- ingly about a subject that is of- ten discussed behind closed doors. The message she brought to the meeting was that every per- son, regardless of their age, is a sexual being. "We are all sexual beings," Mrs. Johanson told the women. "We are born sexual and we will be sexual until the day we ie. She said children do not think of their parents as sexual beings, and at the same time parents fear their children's sexuality. "We as educators and par- ents try to harness a child's sex- uality," she said. "We don't do ourselves a favor and we don't do our children a favor." Parents teach their children that sex is best within the con- fines of marriage but then they don't express this to their chil- dren through their own mar- riage. We don't let them see daddy squeeze mommy's bum in the kitchen," she told the women. This sends a message to the children that their parents "aren't gettin' none," Mrs. Jo- hanson said. Parents must show their chil- dren that sex is fulfilling within the marriage. Seniors are also stigmatized as a group of non-sexual beings. But Mrs. Johanson said that al- though sex may lose its urgency as one grows older, seniors still have desires. During her discussion, Mrs. Johanson also spoke about revi- talizing one's sex life, how to talk to children about sex and how to become more aware of one's sexuality. She said there are many mis- conceptions about sex and one's sexuality because of mankind's awkwardness toward the sub- ject. Mrs. Johanson, a nurse by trade, hosts radio and television programs on sexuality and has written a couple of books on the subject. Her audience encompasses adolescents to senior citizens. She is pictured above auto- graphing her Talk Sex book for Debbie Marsh who attended the Scugog Women meeting at the Greystone Restaurant. At the end of the meeting, Mrs. Johanson signed copies of her book Talk Sex. The book is aimed toward an adolescent au- dience and is filled with short questions and answers. She called the book a good "lead in" for parents who want to discuss sex with their chil- dren. Mrs. Johanson has another book due out this spring called Sex is Perfectly Natural But Not Naturally Perfect. A nurse by profession, Mrs. Johanson started up a birth control clinic in 1970 and then began lecturing on sex and sex- uality. She moved into this field be- cause she felt there was a need to educate youth about sex. Her knack for making people feel comfortable helps them express their concerns easier. As well as publishing two books, Mrs. Johanson is the host of the Sunday Night Sex - Show on radio station Q107, Talking Sex with Sue on Rogers Cable (Oshawa), and Kids, Sex, Drugs and Rockon CHCHTV. Borelians present the hilarious comedy Cheaters Cheaters, by Michael Jacobs, is the latest offering from the very busy Borelians Theatre. As directed by John Lukianchuk, the play is a rollicking, often furious- ly paced farce that will keep au- diences in stitches as well as touching them with its humanity. You see, Alan (Ray Porrill) and Michelle (Lynne Atkinson) are having a hard time in their relationship, Alan just cannot ~ bring himself to commit. Michelle has no doubts that she loves Alan, but the wise cracking young man just cannot decide what he wants. Their relationship seems doomed when Michelle's parents invite Alan and his parents over to din- ner to see if they can help the kids sort things out. A good idea? Not when you consider that the par- ents have been cheating, with each other's spouses!!! Howard (David Ellis) and Monica (No. - ma Van Camp) have just come to the end of their affair 'cause Howard feels Monica is not young enough for him. Meanwhile Sam (Vern Vogel) and Grace (Souise Lukianchuk) have just begun an affair that has left Grace racked with guilt, and more than a little paranoid. When the cheating four- some comes together to discuss their children, the stage is set for laughs galore. Director Lukianchuk has been busy rehearsing since early January, and if early rehearsals are any indication, this should be a smash. Producer John H. Foote calls the play, 'a perfect night out at the theatre, all round fun, lots of laughs, lots of good entertainment." Tickets are available at Irwin Smith Music, with opening night being a two for one. Saturday evenings will be the cabaret style shows, while all others will be standard row seating. Cheaters opens Thursday Feb. 21, playing Friday, Feb. 22, Satur- day, Feb. 23 and Thursday the 28th, March 1 and 2.
