On Saturday the Whitby Auto Wreckers, a representative of the Port Perry House League, won the B Championship at the Manvers Atom House League Tournament. In the first game the Wreckers were matched up against Scugog Lumber, the rival from the Port Perry House League. As usual the game was a barn burner. Scugog Lumber jumped into an early lead with 2 nifty goals from Aaron .Levy both assisted by Travis Pickard and Mark Sauter. Then at 9:44 of the second period, Jonothan Froats put Scugog up 3-0 on a nice goal with Kevin Edwards and Dave Gainey assisting. Finally at 8:44 of the se- cond period, Chris Jamieson not- ched the Wreckers first tally on a pretty play, set up by Gavin Bax- ter and Chris Orr. Then just before the end of the period, Tommy Baker and Gavin Baxter set up Chris Jamieson who banged home the Wreckers se- cond goal. Early in the 3rd period, Dave Gainey took a pass from Justin Sheeney and snapped a 15 Scugog mens BIG UPSETS ON SUNDAY!! The first game of the day was somewhat of an upset as Crandell's shutout Van & Truck World 2-0. Scoring for Crandell"s was Henry Forderer from George Gladish, and Ray Zaparanuik from Ivan Geer. Ray Gibson played an excellent game between the pipes for Crandell's thus recording the shutout. Game two was a total whitewash as Sportsland walked over Compton Cable T.V. 9-2. Capitalizing for Sportsland were Ron Hoogeboom 2 goals, 3 assists, Mark Jobb 1 goal, 4 assists, Brian Callery 2 goals, 2 -assists, Rick Olaisen 3 goals, 1 assist, Mike McQuade 1 goal, 1 assist, Keijo Kinnunen 2 assists, Bill Owen 2 assists and Wayne Taylor 1 assist. For Compton it was Larry Page from Jim Fowler and Todd hockey league Wilbur, and Rick Hope from Larry Page and Bruce Smith. In game three Norton's came out and laid a surprise attack on Anderson's by beating them 3-2. Counting for Norton's were Dave Dickson 2 goals, Tony Oxley 1 goal, 1 assist, and Brian Norton one assist. Fighting back for Andersons was Bill Van Camp from Larry Jackson then Larry scored assisted by Lee Steeves and Bill Van Camp. Game four saw J&D Carpentry pull to within one point of first place as they defeated first place Fitzgerald's 4-2. Scorers for J&D were Rob Evans 1 goal, 1 assists, Fred Mof- fatt 1 goal, 1 assist, Dennis Lycett and Dave Mann 1 goal apiece. Dave Sandison added the other lone assist. . Tallying for Fitzgerald's was Dan Carty from Ken Smart, and Bill Bridge from Jody Peters. B/R lose overtime, but win match Broomball action the past ~ weekend had Framer's against their arch rivals Blackstock. After a scoreless period, Blackstock jumped to a 2-0 lead with goals :38 seconds apart and went on to win 3-0. Goal scorer's were Ron Short with 2 and Bill Pratt with one. Dave Dalton, Ron Wagg, Tom Wotten and Dave Green had assists. Rick McClean earned the shutout. Game 2 had B&R/Swamp vs. Woody's, but first they had to complete an O.T. game from earlier in the season. Woody's prevailed 5-1 in tiie 5 minute total goals O.T.. Bruce Woodrow had 1 goal 3 assists, Neil Woodrow 2 goals 1 assist, Gene Woodrow 4 assists, Ron Volkins 1 goal, Jim Gregg 1 goal, Martin Joncas 1 assist. Scott Heard replied for B&R. With that over, the teams got down to playing their regular game. Steve Robinson from Dave Canning gave Swamp an early " lead but Jim Gregg from Gene Woodrow and Ron Volkins tied it up. The game stayed that way un- tii Tim Ashbridge's long shot made it 2-1. With just 1:41 left, Larry Moarse tied the game again from Sean McGuiggen and Neil Woodrow. O.T. loomed once again but Mike Mole from Dan McKee scored with 1:04 to give B&R the win. The final game shaped up to be a mismatch with 1st place Monsma against last place Em- merson's. Two last period goals from Tom Hansford assisted by Murray Down and Tom Powell had Monsma out front. But Charlie Dennis's goal from . Dave Lawrence with 4:48 left made it an interesting game right to the final whistle. Atom 2 update The play-off road has finally met a dead end for the Pineridge Atom #2 team last Tuesday in Lindsay. In a thoroughly entertaining game the Atoms lost by a score of 2-1. The team played exceptional- ly well and gave the Lindsay team a lot of anxious moments. The score remained deadlocked at 0-0 until halfway through the third period when Justin Halligan put Port ahead with a nice goal assisted by Danny Lyons and Scott Sanderson. The goaltending duo of Jon Chambers and Heather Tredway | played very well keeping the Lindsay team off the scoreboard until four minutes remaining in the game when Lindsay tied it up. Then came the last eight seconds and a goalmouth scramble that squeaked in according to the of- ficial??? It was a heart breaker for the team to lose. Lindsay were very fortunate to win. Anyway, it's up bright and ear- ly this coming weekend for the Sutton Tournament. Ryan Puckrin kept the Wreckers in the game with some super saves and then with 31 seconds to go Adam Brain and Luke Newman kept the puck in the Scugog zone with some great blue line antics. 'Then Chris Jamieson completed his hat trick with a wrist shot through the five bole. The never say die Wreckers kept on charging. Gavin Baxter stole the puck at the Scugog blue line and passed it up to Jay Flet- cher who in turn slid the puck ahead to Chris Jamieson. With 3 seconds to go Chris made no mistake as he whipped his fourth goal into the lower right hand corner to tie the game. The rules of the tournament gave Minor Hockey playoffs The following are the dates and times of up-coming Minor Hockey playoff action at the Scugog Arena. On February 13, the Juve- niles are in action with face-off set for 9:15 PM. On February 15, the Ban- tam 1's will see action with game time at 9:15 PM. The Midget 2's quarter fi- nal action is set for Feb. 16 at 9:00 PM. Ne And on Feb. 18, there are two games scheduled. The Ban- tam 2's take to the ice at 7:30 PM, followed by the Midget 1's at 9:15. _ Forsome fine playoff action by teams in the Port Perry Mi- nor Hockey system, why not take in a game or two at the Scu- gog Arena. PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, February 12, 1991 -- 21 Whitby Auto Wreckers capture B crown Scugog Lumber the right to ad- vance on the A side of the tourna- ment. 'Whatever team is leading before the game is tied, is given the win." The Auto Wreckers went to the B side. The Auto Wreckes faced Manvers in the second game and after falling behind 1-0, Jay Flet- cher tied the score with assists go- ing to Gavin Baxter and Brennan Malcolm. Then Gavin Baxter put . the Wreckers ahead on a nice goal set up by Jay Fletcher and Chris Jamieson. Manvers tied the score when Jason Pringle notched his second goal. Chris Jamieson then replied for the Wreckers with assists going to Brennan Malcolm and Tom Baker. At the 9:41 mark of the 3rd period, Jay Fletcher took a clear- \ ing pass from Luke Newman and then sent Chris Jamieson in on net where he zipped home the Wreckers fourth goal. Jay Flet- cher rounded out the scoring on a pretty pass from Chris Jamieson. Fletcher flipped a backhand over the blocker of the Manvers goalie. Keith Hancock also drew an assist on the goal which ended the game. Final score Whitby Auto Wrecker 5 and Manvers 2. The championship game against Emily Omemee featured great goaltending by Ryan Puckr- in ("Puck") and fine team play OHA JR. C° PLAYOFFS SCUGOG ARENA by the Whitby Auto Wreckers. Chris Jamieson who was hot all day started the scoring at 8:33 of the first period with assists going to Gavin Baxter and Dave Crouter. Then Jay Fletcher made it 2-0 when Glen McCready and Ben Stephenson combined, to send him in alone where he fired a sizzler to the upper corner blocker side. At 3:26 of the first period, Flet- cher took a pass from Keith Han- cock and broke in alone and not- ched his second goal with a wrist shot to the upper corner. Tom Baker made it 4-0 when Chris Jamieson set him up in front of the net and he banged the puck home. Chris Orr also drew an assist on the goal. At 9:23 of the final stanza Jay Fletcher took a pass from Adam Brain who then relayed jt to Gavin Baxter. Young Baxter made no mistake as he zipped it homie. At 8:29, Jay Fletcher broke in alone; made a nice deke, and beat the goalie with the forehand, completing the hat trick. Chris Sandham broke the 'Puck's" _ shut out bid at 2:50, and the game ended 6-1. Congratulations should be ex- tended to all players and coaches Wayne Hancock and John Jamieson.
