Please see YMCA floor hockey Herons and Wildcats Tie On February 4, the in- termediate boys played an ex- citing game resulting in a 6-6 tie. Owen St. John started off the. scoring for the Herons. Aaron Levy and Kevin Duncan followed up with singles. The Wildcats were on the scoreboard as well. Steve Doan netted a single and Kevin Pyke added 2 more goals. The score was tied at 3-3 at the end of the 1st period. i Second period' action saw 3 more goals for the Herons by players Brad Fraser, Matt Brown and another for Kevin Duncan. Ben Russell, a new player for the Wildcats scored a single goal. Kevin Pyke again scored giving him a hat trick for the night. They headed into the 3rd period, Herons 6, Wildcats 5, un- til Steve Doan scored his second goal of the night to tie up the game. Great "stuff" by Heron goalies Ryan Fraser and new player Todd Mitchell. "Wild" moves by Daryl Dalton, Jason Lown and Evan Bertrand as they played between the pipes for the Wildcats. SUNROOFS! The Cornish squad won all four of their games defeating + teams from Joseph Gould, Cen- tral Park, Maple Ridge, and Dr. Robert Thorton Public Schools. From here the Cougars went on to play in the Whitby Invita- tional Tournament held Febru- ary land 2. There were 24 teams from Durham Region, Collingwood, York Region, Peterborough, and Guelph vying for top hon- ~orsin the tournament. R.H. Cornish won their first two games Friday evening, and three games on Saturday to be declared A division champions for the second year in a row. Shawna Cornish, of the Cou- gars was named the most valu- able player and received an eighty dollar gift certificate. Mr. Hinch, the co-ordinator of the tournament described R.H. Cornish as "the finest passing team" he had ever seen. The girls were given full marks for their efforts, outscor- ing their opposition 163 to 60 in five games. The team is now preparin for the D.E.A.A. finals that will take place at the end of Febru- ary. , Sportsland Bantams take 2-0 lead Port Perry Sportsland Bantams have jumped into a 2-0 lead in their best-of-five with Newmarket, on the strength of a WH pair of 7-2 victories this weekend. Friday night at home, the . teams battled through a fast, fair- ly competitive period before Mark Cosway finally broke the ice, dunking a setup from Chad Kearns and Todd Smart early in the second. Port then started to take charge. Chad Garvock step- ped between the defencemen to steal the puck for one goal, then cashed a Steve Desautels pass for his second. Thirty seconds later Garvock and Jeremy Norton combined to set up Desautels for a 4-0 lead. Newmarket managed to count on a 2-on-1 with :29 left in the period. Desautels tallied again from Garvock and Jason Coutoulakis early in the third, and after Newmarket potted their second, Dave Bourgeois, from Lou Whit- field and Blair Prechitko; then Cosway unassisted, polished off the scoring inside the last 2 minutes. Mike Pashley got the start in net and was solid when called on. The © return match in Newmarket was played at a slower pace, but Port got on the scoresheet much faster, scoring 3 goals in the first period and 1 ear- ly in the second. They opened up a 5-0 lead late in the period. Newmarket picked up 1 in the third on-a net crasher play, but James Patterson recovered to continue his netminding. Another pair of goals nudged the Port lead to 7-1 before the home team picked up 1 more with :01 to play. Coutoulakis led the offense with a pair of goals and an assist. Whit- field, Cosway, Desautels, and Norton each had 1 and 1. Mike - Williams added a goal, Garvock had 2 assists and Kearns, Bourgeois and Jason Phillips had single helpers. Sportsland will return to Newmarket Friday for the third game of the series, where a. vic- tory would allow them to advance to the O.M.H.A. semi-finals against either Ennismore or Prince Edward County. Minor Softhall Plans for the 1991 Minor Soft- ball season are well underway. At the Annual General Meeting in October, 1990 a new executive was elected. The executive consists of Carolyn Best - President and Dia- mond scheduler; Barry Johnston - Vice President: Rob Cooper - Past President; Allynne Jones - Secretary Treasurer; Garney Warriner - Equipment Manager; Directors - Jon Dawson, Denise Jeffrey, John Jolicouer, John Langford, Barry Virtue, Stan General Meeting Zuly. AL the first executive meeting held on January 24, 1991, the plans were laid for start-up of. this years' season. The registration for 1991 is seated for the 23rd and 24th of March. Watch for notices in the paper and around town for the times and location. This years' registration for a single person will be $40.00 ($55.00 late registration) and for a family of 3 or more- $100.00 ($125.00 for late registration). Each player will receive a shirt and hat as well as their picture which is included in the fee. There will be a diamond clean- up again this year, scheduled for May 4, 1991.
