Truck and light utility vehicle sales were 8,964, down 18.1 per cent from 10,940 in January 1990. "Deteriorating business condi- tions and the effects of a slower economy continue to impact on our vehicle sales," said Erdman. "However, we are very pleased with the strong sales performance of a number of our car lines, par- ticularly our Chevrolet Cavalier and Pontiac Sunbird, which offer excellent value both in price and fuel economy." He said another GM success story was sales of Pontiac Grand Prix, Oldsmobile Supreme and the Oshawa-built buick Regal and Chevrolet Lumina. "These popular mid-size cars are continu- ing to be very strong contenders in both the fleet and retail marketplace with sales up 66.3 per cent over last year." Ermdan said he was very pleased with the enthusiastic public acceptance of the new Oldsmobile 98 and Buick Park Avenue. "These cars have achiev- ed excellent sales levels in the lux- ury car segment, with Park Avenue volume up 75 per cent and Olds 98 up 95 per cent for January. The Cadillac family of cars, too, is doing well, with a 7.8 per cent increase for the month," said Erdman. Erdman said Canada's soft commercial market had im- pacted on sales of full-size C-K trucks, down 9.9 per cent from a year ago, but he pointed out that the Oshawa-built full-size extend- ed cab models were selling well and that order banks were full. He also said GM's four-door version of its utility vehicles, the Chevrolet Blazer and GMC Jim- my were receiving good customer acceptance and accounted for 70 per cent of their S/T utility sales. Gordon Elson who alleged- ly is leasing the property in question has made one court ap- pearance on the charge, with the matter put over to March 4 in Oshawa Court.
