These three members of the Port Perry Figure Skating Club captured medals at the Pineridge Inter-club Competi- tion held February 9 and 10 In Cobourg. Juveniles eliminate Uxbridge On Monday, February 11 the Port Juveniles travelled to Ux- bridge Arena to play the Uxbridge Juveniles and came away with a solid 7 to 1 victory. By virtue of that win Port eliminated Uxbridge from the 0.M.H.A. Playoffs and Port ad- vances to meet Ennismore in the next round. Port and Uxbridge tied their first game of the eight point 'series, then Uxbridge won the next two games to pull ahead in the series 5 points to one. Port Perry then stormed back with four straight wins to clinch the series 9 points to 5 in convincing fashion. Petites met their arch rivals the Whitby-Brooklin Petites in another one of their usual barn burners. GAME 1 Whitby 8 - Port Perry 3 Whitby opened the scoring at 10:01 to take the early lead 1-0. At 6:08 Whitby scored again to make the score 2-0. At 5:55, Port got on the scoreboard when Jennifer Elliott scored an unassisted goal to close the gap to 2-1. At 2:32 Geni Taylor put the ring over to Jenny Pashley to tie the score at 2 after the first period. Port opened the second period quickly when Jennifer Elliott scored her second unassisted goal to give Port the lead 3-2. Whitby then scored six unanswered goals in the second period to defeat Port Perry 1.G.A. Petites 8-3. GAME 2 Port Perry 9 - Warkworth 4 Port Perry opened the scoring at 11:01 when Geni Taylor shot the ring over to Jenny Pashley in the slot and scored on a hard shot to the lower corner. Warkworth tied up the score at 10:50. Warkworth scored again at 7:10 to take the lead. At 5:24 Natasha Burgess came around the net, over to Amanda Wakeford who fired it past the sliding goalie to tie the score at 2 all. Time ran out in the first period, with the score tied at 2, due to some nice goalten- ding by Christie Aldridge to keep her team in the game. Warkworth lit up the scoreboard first in the second period to take the lead 3-2 at 13:21. After Christie made two nice saves from close range, Port tied it up at 11:37 when Natasha balk iat ei ER te iE A SE uaa Ae PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, February 19, 1991 -- 21 Port Perry IGA Petites pass circle to Jennifer Elliott who made a nice shot to beat the Omemee goalie cleanly. The period ended Port perry 1.G.A. Petites 3 Omemee 0. Omemee opened the second period to close the gap to 3-1. At 10:47 Port got that one back when Jenny Pashley put a nice pass on Natasha Burgess' stick and it's 4-1 for Port. Diane Vanderligt put Geni Taylor in the clear and she flipped a nice one over the sliding goalie to increase Port lead to 5 to 1. With 4:54 left in the period and things going quite well for Port due to the excellent goaltending, Amanda Wakeford scored an unassisted goal after doing some hard work checking. At 3:29 Omemee scored again on a nice goal. At 2:28, Jennifer Elliott scored unassisted to complete her hat trick. With the game winding down, Michele Branton put a nice pass up to Pam Hiltz who set up Natasha Burgess in front and put one upstairs on the Omemee goalie. The horn sounded with Port Perry 1.G.A. Petite "B's" defeating the Omemee team 8-2. Christie Aldridge played all three games in goal for Port, and had herself a fine tournament making many great saves to keep her team in all three games. Nice going Christie!!! Floor hockey It was the Red Wings 9-2 over the Golden Hawks in YMCA Floor Hockey action on Monday, February 11. The Red Wings got off to a fast start in the first period with 4 goals to the Golden Hawks 1. Scoring for the Red wings were Jeff Kane and Adam Youmans with 1 goal a piece and Michael Wiseman with 2 goals. Joey Drebit was the scorer for the Golden Hawks. The second period saw a good match with each team scoring 1 goal. Michael Wiseman com- pleted his hat trick for the Red Wings and Dan Deeth popped one in for the Golden Hawks. The third period belonged to the Red Wings as they scored 4 goals while keeping the Golden Hawks scoreless in this period. Jeff Kane and Scott Beath scored 2 goals It was a close game as the Herons and Wildcats played to a 4-3 victory on Feb. 11. The 1st period remained scoreless for both teams. Great saves by Heron goalie Matt Brown and Wildcat goalie Steve Doan. Second period action was started off with a goal by Heron, Matt Brown and Brad Fraser. Chris Murphy netted a single for the Wildcats to end the second period with a 2-1 score. Heron goalie Ryan Fraser and Wildcat goalie Brennan Malcolm made some super saves. Onward to 3rd period play where Ryan Fraser and Jeremy Fraser each scored singles for the Herons to keep the score close, Steve Doan made some amazing moves and added 2 goals in this period. GAME 3 Port Perry 8 - Omemee 2 The third game had no scoring for the first 5 minutes due to some excellent goaltending at both ends of the rink.
