Scugog is part of the Oshawa and District Real Es- tate Board. In a recent statement, Board president Anne Briscoe said January was a record month for sales over the previ- ous month. She cited interest rates, prices and a large inventory as the reasons for the perk-up in Durham Region. Last month, realtors with- in the Oshawa and District board made 339 residential sales, compared with 280 in January, 1990. The average price last month was $157,200. A year ago January, the average price was $179,300. "The average price reflects the kind of home people are buy- ing at this time, not necessarily a decrease in property values," said Mrs. Briscoe. Statistics from the Real Es- tate Board show the average selling price in January this year, was up about $7,000 from the average price in November, 1990.
