26 - PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, February 26, 1991 MoJacks- The Port Perry ModJacks and Bowmanville Eagles are deadlocked at two games each in their Central Junior C best of seven semi final series. After losing a 5-4 heart- breaker in overtime on home ice Saturday night, the MoJacks re-bounded in a big way Sunday in Bowmanville as they skated to a solid 8-2 victory. This was one of those "must win" games and the MoJacks did just that. After spotting Eagles leads of 1-0 and 2-1, MoJacks slowly but surely wrestled control of the game in the second period to build a 5-2 lead. They were not about to let this one slip away, adding three more in a fight-filled final peri- od. John Harman continued his torrid scoring pace in the playoffs with two goals. Phil Fitz in first THE PLAYOFFS AWAIT!!! The first game of the day went to first place Fitzgerald's Weed Control as they had no trouble "exterminating" the Van & Truck World 'Pumpkins' 7-1. "Spraying" the net for Fit- zgerald's were Carl Fitzgerald 2 goals, 2 assists, Ken Smart 2 goals, 2 assists, Bill Bridge 1 goal, 3 assists, Gary Lance 1 goal, 1 assist and Kevin Reid 1 goal. Wayne Norton and Dave Jackson picked up 2 assists each while Jody Peters added a single. The lone marker for Van & Truck World was Wayne Fox from Brian (No GST) Samis and Mike Adam. Game two saw the rise and fall of Sportsland as they played a strong game but went on to lose in the end to Anderson's Chev. Olds. 3-0. Scoring for Anderson's were Carl Durward 2 goals and Mike Driscoll one. Assists went to Bill Van Camp, Dave Bourgeois, Steve Calder (wha didn't even play), John Delorme and "Dave Ballingall." Don Card played a great game in net to earn the shutout and the "Viezna." ' The third game was similar to the first as Norton's Home Im- provements had no trouble with Compton Cable T.V. as they just filled the almost 'empty net 6-1. Leading the way for Norton's were Dave Dickson 2 goals, 3 assists, Tony Oxley 1 goal, 1 assist, Clarence Stephenson 1 goal, 1 assist, Dave "B-Rating"' Milton 1 goal. 1 assist and Rob Kroonenberg 1 goal, 1 assist. Also assisting were Marvin Stevenson, Doug "Slim" Brown and Dave Roth. The lone marker for Compton was Bruce Smith from Larry Page and Glen Hudson. In game four J&D Carpetry clinched second place overall with a handy 4-1 win over Crandell's Riverboat. Helping out were Rob Evans, Richard Sakanashi and Fred Moffatt 2 assists apiece and Chris Brain one. For Crandell's it was Henry Forderer from Doug Bronson and Ivan Geer. The times and teams for next weeks playoffs start as follows: 8:05 - Sportsland vs. J&D Carpentry. 9:10 - Fitzgerald's vs. Compton. 10:15 - Crandell's vs. Van & Truck World. 11:20 - Norton's vs. Anderson's FINAL STANDINGS Team Fitzgeralds J&D Carpentry Andersons Van & Truck World Nortons Crandells Compton Sportsland W L T F A Pts. 16 7 1 97 68 33 13 6 5 92 81 31 12 6 6 67 56 30 9 9 6 78 78 24 10 12 2 8 78 22 7 13 4 76 83 18 7 13 4 72 108 18 7 15 2 75 79 16 POWER For all your LAWN & POWER EQUIPMENT NEEDS 985-4717 sales * service * parts CONSUMER - INDUSTRIAL - POWER PRODUCTS McBride had two as well and got himself embroiled in a pret- ty good scrap late in the game. Singles went to Al Avery with the game winner, Rob Met- calfe, Brad Menzies and Kevin Gibson. Menzies was in high gear all evening. Along with his goal, he had four assists in this one. Eagle markers came from the stick of Shane Armstrong and Glen Campbell. The game was a chippy, scrappy affair almost from the opening face-off. And with the score 7-2 in MoJacks favour, tempers snapped with several skirmish- es breaking out. The main event featured a couple of heavyweights as Phil McBride and Kevin Mitchell dropped the gloves and the hel- mets to slug it out at centre ice. McBride took the decision in this one. The ModJacks were certain- ly full marks for their victory. They worked very hard at both ends of the arena. On Saturday night in front of a full house at the Scugog Arena, MoJacks watched a 4-2 lead disappear as the Eagles went on to a 5-4 win in sudden death OT. Nick Dennis pulled the trigger at 3:56 to give Eagles the win. MoJacks seemed to be in control of this game as goals by Menzies (2), Mike Coulson and John Lally, short-handed staked them to the 4-21ead. Eagles scored twice in the third to get the score tied at 4-4. GAME TWO MoJacks evened the series at one yame each last Thursday evenin in front of alarge crowd at the Scugog Arena. But as they have done so of- ten this season, they had to claw their way back in the third peri- od. Trailing 4-2 going into the final stanza, MoJacks struck for four un-ansered goals, includ- ing an empty-netter to ice the 6- 4 win. What proved to be the win- ner came at 16:18 when hard working Kevin Desrosiers fired one along the ice with Jarrett Harman and Phil McBride drawing the assists. With just seconds to go in the game, John Harman tapped home the empty netter on a set- up from Brad Menzies. It was Harman who tied the game for the MoJacks early in the third on a snap shot that seemed to fool Chris Massey. And Rob Metcalfe started the final period come-back at 4:08 when his long shot from the point skipped into the Eagle cage. SCUGOG MENS HOCKEY FINAL TOP TEN SCORERS Player Team G. A. Pts. Shane Armstrong had two, with singles to Gareth Stone and Drew Allenby. John Lally, who seems to be at his best against the Ea- gles, scored a pair in the first pe- riod, including a nifty short- handed effort. With the injury to Drew Campbell, Dwayne Mackie started the game in the goal and was replaced in the second by Rob Harris, his first appear- ance in a MoJack sweater. Harris made a couple of outstanding glove stops late in the game to preserve this im- portant victory. GAME ONE The series opened Feb. 19 in Bowmanville with the Eagles scoring four goals in the ten- minute OT period to take an 8-5 victory. MoJacks at one point led this one 3-1 before the Eagles rallied with three in the third. John Harman led the Mo- Jacks with two goals and two assists, with singles to Billy Lawrenson, John Lally and Mike Coulson. Shane Armstrong did a lot of the damage for the Eagles with a hat trick, with Glen Campbell chipping in with a pair. Eagles out-shot ModJacks 47-36 over the game and 11-3 in the overtime period. SLAPSHOTS: Game five goes this Wednesday night in Port Perry at 8:15. Game six is in Bowmanville on Friday at 8:00 and Game seven if needed is pack in Port on Saturday at 8:00 Goaltender Drew Camp- bell was hurt in game one and it's not known if he'll be back this series. His replacement has been Rob Harris, who tended the cage for the Merchants this sea- son. Bowmanville team officials were fuming about a possible protest over Harris, but this has not been confirmed. Todd Taylor has displayed a lot of guts playing parts of the last two games. He's coming off a broken ankle that is still giv- ing him trouble. Likewise Bob Willetts with his gimpy knee. These guys really should not be in action, but they are determined to do what they can to help the team win this series. On Sunday night especial- ly, the team got fine work from players who don't get a lot of ink each week: Greg French, Dan- ny Maw, Jason Head, Jim Ver- non, Kevin Desrosiers, Jarrett Harman, Kevin Gibson, all made an impact.
