The Midgets defeated their bitter rivals from Cobourg 4-2 last Friday evening at the Scu- gog Arena to take that best of five series three games to one. And their next opponent will be Midland, with game one in the series set for Sunday March 3 at the Scugog Arena for a 5:30 PM faceoff. In the series winner Friday evening, Port Perry turned in a strong performance in what was a rough, chippy encounter with the Cobourgcrew. Port took a 1-0 lead in the first on a marker by Corey Bricknell set up by Dave Pash- ley. Jennifer Donnelly notched all of Port's goals in a 9-5 loss to the host team. Assists went to Leanne Layzell with 2, Alaina Davis, Sarah Verschuuren, Melissa Hooker and Leanne Davison with singles. The game was a close end-to- end affair with the lead changing hands four times before En- nismore pulled away late in the game. Alicia Burgess was consis- tent in net, Nicole Virtue gave a solid two-way effort, Katherine Cooke contributed a steady red stick effort with Miranda Burgess being recognized by Ennismore as the outstanding red stick ear- ning the MVP (Most Valuable Player) award. Unfortunate for Port was the absence of Leanne Holt whose ex- uberance was greatly missed. The Eaglettes are off to the Oro tournament next weekend where they will be looking for gold. Go get em girls!!! and their hard work paid off with three un-answered goals and a commanding 4-0 lead. Jeff Parry from Bricknell and Steve Laird made it 2-0, fol- lowed by Jason Cochrane and Dan Sluggett. Jan Heyes drew assists on both these goals as did Jason Towns and Gervan Sytnyk. Cobourg attempted some- thing of a rally in the third as Ryan Gryko and Shane Weath- erby cut the margin to 4-2. Midget B advance The Canadian Tire Midget B team has advanced to the semi- final round against Prince Ed- ward County! The Port Perry team defeated Uxbridge, winning the best 3 out of 5 series with decisive victories of 5-3, 8-2, and 6-2. On Wednesday, February 20th the final game was played in Port Perry. The first period went to the hometown team with Ryan Picard opening the scoring, assisted by Scott Menzies. Also tallying for Port Perry was Brad Moase with assists going to Jason McBride and Darrell Vanderligt. The second period was a bit of a see-saw battle as Uxbridge scored twice and so did Port.
