On February 20, the Inter- mediate Girls basketball team began their Durham Elemen- tary Athletic Association (DEAA) playoffs. In a three game tournament, the team won the area pennant which allowed them to advance to the D.E.A.A. semi-finals on February 27. Again the team won all three games which brought them to the D.E.A A. finals held at Dun- barton High School on March 7. Here the team met up with Dr. Robert Thorton, and defeat- ed their opposition 35-25 to cap- ture the Durham Regional Ma- jor School Championship Pennant. Two hours later the Cougars met up with the Minor School Champions, Sunderland, and once again emerged victorious by a score of 30-22. onal Champions This victory allowed R.H. Cornish to be named Regional Champions for the second SPO year. Many of these athletes played on last year's championship team. Coach, Wayne Addison had the following to say abeut his teams achievements. "This is the most talented and best balanced team I have ever coached. The fact they completed a 23 game season un- defeated speaks for itself. Along the way the team also won the Northern Classic Tour- nament and the Whitby Invita-- tional Tournament. The girls have received nu- merous compliments from op- position coaches on their amaz- ing passing game and their excellent skills. I would personally like to thank a group of people who were very much responsible for the development of these young ladies, the parents, who came out and supported the girls faithfully game after game." Port Perry IGA Petites The rivalry between Port Perry and Whitby in the Petite '"B" divi- sion is one of respect other than bitterness. At 11:11 Pam Hiltz put a perfect pass over to Mandy Smart who wasted no time in tucking one past the Whit- - by goalie. Whitby scored again at 7:22 to go ahead 2-1.
