Game 1 Consumers vs Peterboro St. James Consumers opened up the scor- ing in the first minute of the game by a goal from Eric Lucyk - unassisted. Their second goal was scored by Darryl McGowan assisted by Matt Phoenix. Peterboro scored two goals ear- ly in the second period making the score 2-2. A second goal by Dar- ryl McGowan, again assisted by Matt Phoenix, gave Consumers the lead again. With only two minutes left, Matt Phoenix assisted by Darryl McGowan and Ryan Larmer gave Consumers a 4-2 lead. The only goal in the third period Atoms end The Malmont Atom A's ended their season in grand style in the Rochester Tournament. Friday morning they matched up against Unionville. Unionville seemed to be in control of the first and most of the second period and picked up two unanswered goals. All of a sudden Port came alive and popped in two goals at the 59 second mark and again at the 38 second mark ending the second period in a 2-2 tie. First Mike Heaseman fired a great shot after picking up the face-off by Daryl McEnaney. Then Shane Norton found the open mesh on a pass from the point by Seth Gray. Both teams were out for the win in the third period. At the half way mark Kent Johnston scored the winner on a great play set up by teammate Daryl McEnaney. Justin Kowalczyk played a strong game on defense for Port. Later in the day Port played their second game against a home town Rochester team. Rochester put three on the scoreboard in the first period. Port seemed to have the play in the second period, but only one got in behind the net- minder. Kevin Cochrane scored from the corner on a play set up by Daryl and Shane. Casey VanSchagen did everything around the net but couldn't seem to beat the guy between the pipes. Rochester notched one more in the open net to leave Port with a 4-1 loss. Saturday afternoon, Port played their third game against a ~ squad from Syracuse. Port's Mike Morden came up with a big one, assists to Danny Robinson and Kent Johnston to open the scoring in the first period. Port's Kent Johnston scored a beauty from out in front, set up by Daryl McEnaney. Heading into the third period with a 2-0 lead but Syracuse wasn't ready to give up. With four minutes left in the game, they closed the gap to 2-1 and with a minute and a half left, they tied it up. This sent the game into over- time and all the fans were on the edge of their seats. Port controll- ° ed the play and after several shots, Dillan Weber put the red light on for the good guys. Assisting on the winning goal were Shane Norton and Danny Robinson. Adam Jones played a strong game for Port and did a great job this year leading the Malmont Atoms as Captain. A great job, as well, by both assistant captains, Daryl McEnaney and Dillan Weber. Netminders Paul Shrigley an | Luke Carraghan shared the duties between the pipes for Port. The families, coaches and Port Perry Minor Hockey would like to came from Matt Brown, on a break away, making the final score 5-2 for Consumers. Best Effort awarded to Matt Phoenix. Game 2 Consumers vs Wilberforce Consumers had many oppor- tunities to score during the first period, but just couldn't get one in the net. Goalie for Consumers - Ian Johnson, played an excellent first period by only allowing one goal in net. The second period saw only two goals scored - both by Consumers. The first goal scored by Matt Brown assisted by Darryl McGowan. The second goal scored by Eric Lucyk assisted by Matt Brown and Ryan Larmer. During the third period Con- sumers were the only ones on the scoreboard. Eric Lucyk assisted by Matt Brown, and with only 35 seconds left, Eric scored unassisted - his third in the game. Final score 4-1 Consumers. Best Effort to Eric Lucyk. Game 3 Consumers vs Newmarket "C" Division Championship The scoring got off to a slow start. Newmarket had just finish- ed playing, and ended up on the ice again. Newmarket opened the scoring half-way through the first period. Two minutes later Eric Lucyk, unassisted, scored for season in grand style express their appreciation to Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm, from Mal- mont Farms, for sponsoring the Atom A team another year. Auto Wreckers win another B crown Last Monday the Whitby Auto Wreckers captured the B Cham- pionship at the Port Perry Atom House League Tournament with a convincing 6-2 victory over Bowmanville. In the semi-final the Wreckers fell behind 2-0 to Nobleton but then Adam Brain took a pass from goalie Ryan Puckrin and relayed it to Glen McCready. Glen streaked in on the net and beat the goalie. At the 6:13 mark of the 3rd period Gavin Baxter tied the score with a nice goal assisted by Brennan Malcolm and Ben Stephenson. A few moments later Jay Fletcher set up Chris Jamieson from behind the net and Chris put Whitby ahead by one with a quick shot to the corner. At the 2:19 mark Gavin Baxter sent Jay Fletcher in alone where he beat the Nobleton netminder with a backhander. This goal was the insurance they needed for Nobleton scored at 1:28 and the game ended 4-3 in favour of the Auto Wreckers. Jay Fletcher joined Chris Jamieson in receiving the M.V.P. trophy. Chris was previously honoured in the first game with the award which is based on "best effort". At the 8:13 mark Adam Brain and Chris Jamieson set up Jay Fletcher to put Whitby ahead 4-1. After Bowmanville scored to make it 4-2 Luke Newman and David Crouter assisted Chris Jamieson who potted the Wreckers 5th goal. Glen McCready and Luke Newman combined to send in Jay Fletcher on net where he completed his hat trick with a nice deke to the backhand. The game ended 6-2 and gave Whitby Auto Wreckers their third B Championship to go along with the A Championship they won two weeks ago in Wilberforce. Ryan Puckrin earned the M.V.P. of the game and Gavin Baxter deserves honourable mention for his strong performance. In the championship game the Wreckers jumped into the lead when Brennan Malcolm and Chris Jamieson assisted a backhand goal by Jay Fletcher. After Bowmanville tied the score Jay Fletcher and Tom Baker set up Chris Jamieson to put Whitby ahead 2-1. Ben Stephenson and Luke Newman drew assists on Gavin Baxter's goal which made the score 3-1. On Wednesday, March 13 the Port Perry Minor Hockey held their annual Pee Wee House League Tournament. There were ten teams who participated in this event. Away teams were: Oakwood, Lindsay, Peter- borough, Newmarket and Wilberforce. The day consisted of ten regular games and three championship games. Throughout the day Port Perry teams dominated the game play and the scoreboard. All teams displayed a real team effort and worked extremely hard throughout each game. The dedication and encouragement of our coaches reflected in the strong performance each team gave. Each player must be con- gratulated on their sense of sport- smanship and their hard work.
