Official Plan goes before Council on Wednesday It's taken over four years to produce, but Durham Region's official planis now ready. Council will meet Wednes- day in a bid to give the OP final approval. But Scugog councillor Yvonne Christie told the Port Perry Star it could be two years before the plan is approved in whole. People who disapprove of cer- tain parts of the plan will take their complaints to the Ontario Municipal Board, she said. As of Friday, about 20 delega- tions were signed up to speak on sections of the plan in front of council. The meeting is expected to continue on Thursday. The official plan is designed to guide the region's growth for the next 30 years, but it could be updated in 15 years. Festival Days events start to shape up Festival Days is only five and a half weeks away. Events for the popular, mid- summer celebration are in the process of being revised and fi- nalized now. This year's Festival Days (July 11-13) takes on a Western theme and although the sched- ule has been pared down to three days, there will be plenty for the whole family to do. Highlights include a Karioke event (music is provided and participants sing the lyrics), an arm wrestling tournament, mutt show, magic show, a tal- ent night sponsored by Molson Breweries and CHOO Radio, and a bath tubrace. Western band Timberwolf and 50s band Pink Cadillac will perform on Thursday and Sat- urday night respectively. More information on Festival Days will appear in the pages of the Port Perry Star as the event nears. : Please recycle this newspaper
