18 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, June 4, 1M Children's Aid Society Camp-On-It program Summer vacation is great. It's smoldering hot. There is absolute- ly nothing to do. Sounds heaven- ly right? Wrong, It sounds like torture to a kid. Boredom sets in fast when all the other kids get to have fun. Sitting around the house with no plans for summer can lead to more than just boredom. It can lead to mischievous trouble. But what can be done? The Children's Aid Society of Durham Region has begun a pro- gram to give kids a great summer experience. "CAMP-ON-IT!"' began last year with community donations enabling CAS to send 73 kids to camp for a week. This year their goal is 85 sponsors for kids. One sponsor sends a child to camp for a week. Each sponsor- ship costs $150 which is tax deductible. Sponsors will receive a letter at the end of the summer from the child. The feeling of goodwill and generosity is as good for the spon- sor's heart and mind as it is for, the child who receives the camp experience. For more information about sponsoring a child for a camp ex- perience, please call the Com- munity Relations Team, Children's Aid Society, during work hours, 433-1551. TOWNSHIP OF SCUGOG SUMMER ">. Three classes took part and in- volved the adults as they were reminded of their own early years with children's hymns. The children also sang songs they had learned. They were given cer- tificates and pins. After the service all joined for a lunch and social period to end the S.S. year. Monday is Scugog sight-seeing. When the Hudsons lived on the main Island Rd. years ago, their family made a lasting friendship with Clara and Joe Dowson which has resulted in many trips bet- ween Cleveland and Scugog, usually on long weekends. But a 50th anniversary in Cleveland on this last short weekend found Clara, Joe, Jim, Janet and son making a fast trip across the border to join the 50 or 60 people in a dinner and dance. All must quickly return for Monday work. When the date arrives for Canoe the Nonquon (to raise money for the Museum), arrives Val and Mike Freeman, bus drivers have usually been keen and successful competitors. Mike and partner, Robt. Baird of Seagrave came first in the Non- quon Triathlon with best time. Val and Terri Baird of Seagrave came in 3rd. Congratulations to these two teams.
