Watercolors and oils ~~ Clarence Titcomb displays his artwork at Scugog library The Watercolors and Oil Paintings of Clarence Titcombe have been shown in various lo- cations all over Ontario, and can currently be seen at the Scugog Memorial Public Li- brary. : Clarence Titcombe became interested in art in his teen years. His initial training was as a commercial artist at North- ern Secondary School in Toron- to, in 1930. - During his four years at school, he had the opportunity to study under such men as Franklin Arbuckle, Sam Fin- lay, and other artists of that time. He began working as a commercial artist in 1934. He has painted intermittent- ly through the years in oils and watercolors, but spent most of his time as photoengraver. His skills with color assisted him in carrying out his respon- sibility for all color corrections in the once popular Eatons cat- alogue, at the engraving and press level of printing. Since retirement, he has travelled extensively, which has given him a fresh new look at color, as well as greatly broadening his range of sub- jects. Clarence recently represent- ed Canada through the Canadi- an Executive Service Organiza- tion during a recent three month trip to Indonesia. As a volunteer consultant, he helped train young people in one of the largest rotogravure packaging printing plants in Jakarta. P.T. Avesta Continen- tal Pack had desired to raise the quality of their product to that of Japan. Clarence Titcombe's display will be at the Scugog Library until June 21.
