The sun shone brightly, the air was crisp and clear, a light breeze blew from the north and enthusiasm was high. " The twenty-third annual Canoe the Nonquon race and excursion got underway at 7:30 a.m. sharp, with about 60 competitors launching their canoes into the murky water under the bridge at the 10th Concession. By far the largest contribution of this amount came from the "Just Ducky" class. Leading the way in the class was the 'dynamic duo' of Doreen Kendall and Bill Brock who managed to raise over $5,600 in pledges. This total almost doubled their pledges from a year earlier. Four canoes took part in the "Ducky Tour", and as they slid their canoes into the water, there was little doubt these participants would not set any records. In fact, it took close to an hour and a half for them to reach the 12th concession check point.
