The Masterfeeds building was struck by lightning, and a barn owned by Frank Tobin, of Uxbridge was completely destroyed by fire when lightning struck it. Many basements were flooded during the rains. Port Perry Junior Farmers held a Car Rally at Greenbank and a picnic at Georgina Park. 10 YEARS AGO Tuesday, June 30, 1981 . On June 29, R.B. Smallman of Port Perry celebrated his 100th birthday with an Open House, Sunday at the Community Nursing Home. The first historical walking tour of Port Perry will leave from Town Hall 1873 on Queen Street this coming Sunday at 2 p.m. Guide Paul Arculus will conduct the tour of buildings and homes of historical significance in the castern or lower part of the community. Larry Emmerson of Port Perry is among 12 Ontario residents who will receive the Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship. A retirement party was held last week for Lillian Midgley who officially retired in April as vice-principal at Epsom School. Kelly Squelch of Raglan recently earned her All-round Cord in Guiding. Dennis Drew Malcolm will be among the 352 graduates receiving degrees when the General Motors Institute holds its convocation Friday, June 19 in Flint, Michigan. Fire destroys Sun Valley home Fire destroyed a Sun Valley home owned by Craig and Debra-Ann Taylor on Tuesday. Firefighters from both Scugog Fire Halls were called to fight the mid-morning blaze.
