We have many inter- nal problems, but, hidden in the hearts of most staunch Cana- dians, there are many personal reasons why this country is very special! There is no country that has the abundance of Canada, the land of plenty, we are so fortunate to be proud Canadians! Look about you, look carefully at the world in which we live, Canada's reputation stands high, a highly respected nation that symbolizes freedom, let us keep it that way! Correction The final results of the Cancer Canvass re - the month of April for Scugog Township was the magnificent sum of $38,000.00. (An error was made in the report for June 18 in this paper). The Cancer Society, with chairperson Doris Taylor - our guiding light, was very pleased with the total collected, and the society wish to thank all who helped in this annual fundraiser for such a worthwhile cause. You all deserve a pat on the back! Family News Ray and Doris Nottingham of Caesarea, attended the 60th wed- ding anniversary for Mr. and Mrs. Peake of Sundridge, On- tario, this past week - a first cousin of Doris'. A lovely visit was enjoyed over the weekend. Our very best wishes to the celebrants! Blue Ray Election With a good attendance Blue Ray Chapter, had a delightful evening for the annual election of officers with W.M. Elsa Bongard and W.P. Fred Alton opening in regular style with officers in their respective stations. Many items of business were dealt with before the summer recess! The election of officers went off smoothly and all offices were filled in record time. After Chapter closed refreshments were served by Elsie Wilbur and Laura Alton and a time of sociability enjoyed! The Past Matrons Club met at the attractive home of Doris Not- tingham in Caesarea on Monday evening, June 24 for a delicious pot luck supper on the lawn. Several were unable to attend - due to illnes, being away, etc. but those present thoroughly enjoyed the party! Audrey Leishman, Reaboro, visited with her mother Neta Fish of Cadmus one day recently and they had an enjoyable shopping tour in Oshawa! Nice to have a visit with Doris Nottingham, Caesarea during the week at the farm and had a good chat over a cup of coffee! Ken Bragg of Bowmanville was a visitor on Saturday at the Cawker farm. Neta Fish has been visiting with Heather Munro of Sonya recent- ly, who is not feeling the best. Trust Heather will enjoy better health soon! Van Nest Family Reunion The reunion was held in Nestleton Community Center on Sunday, June 23. After a bountiful pot luck meal a sports program and visiting completed the after- noon activities. The near perfect weather made for another memorable reunion. Attending the reunion and visiting family members at Nestleton were Barry & Joan Malcolm and baby Emily of Sim- coe, Gail Malcolm, Port Perry, Bonnie Bilton and family of Lyn- dhurst, Dennis and Laina Malcolm, Jave, Leta and Aric of Ajax. John Arnot Van Nest, Brant- ford, was an overnight guest of his niece, Gwen Malcolm and her husband Lawrence of Nestleton. Congratulations to our local young people who graduated from Grade eight this past week. We were indeed proud of your achievements! Blackstock-Nestleton Outdoor Service On Sunday, June 30 at 10:30 a.m. the service was held at the home of Arnold and Jean Williams, Nestleton, with a good attendance. The weather was ideal. Katie & Steven Mairs played the keyboard and guitar to accompany the musical numbers in fine fashion. Rev. Dale Davis based his children's story and ser- mon on "What is a Canadian?" with much audience participa- tion. What fortunate people we are to live in Canada! Many stayed to enjoy a fellowship meal following the service. Nestleton Presbyterian Church Rev. Wm. Fairley conducted the regular morning service in Nestleton Presbyterian Church, with Joyce Taylor, the able organist. Psalm 24 was read responsive- ly and Scripture, II Samuel 7: 10-17 and St. Mark 5. 33-43. Speak- ing on the theme of Canada Day, previously Dominion Day. Rev. Fairley reminded us that we are all part of the Kingdom of God with God in every home. Faith and love should bond us together. Grade 8 Graduation The first Grade 8 graduation ex- ercises for the S.A. Cawker Public School was held on Monday, June 24, 1991 at 7.p.m. with 87 students in the graduating class; 20 of them honour students! Michelle LePage gave the excellent Valedictorian address. During the presentation of awards, Sara Cosway won the S.A. Cawker Family Trophy and sister Emily Cosway won the Citizenship Trophy. Proud parents are Ron and Sandy Cosway of Port Perry, and proud grandparents are Staf- ford and Bessie Cosway of Brooklin, and Gordon and Elvina Kilpatrick of Jefferson City, Missouri, the grandparents on both sides of the family were pre- sent for the graduation! We would like to congratulate all the fine students, a banner night for them, the principal Harry Kiezebrink and vice-principal Helene Daleman, and their terrific staff of teachers. Planning Program President Clara Warren "hosted" the productive meeting of Honeydale Women's Institute, on Tuesday, June 25 a planning session for programming for 1991-1992. After the busy after- noon for president, secretary, and convenors, a delightful social time was of interest, topped off with lovely refreshments!
