With a new Canadian seasons record holder among them, this class will be heading to the star- ting gate for the second time this year. With the first race jitters now out of the way, these youngsters should be ready to show their potential as classic race horses. Wintermantle is a Balanced Im- age colt who set the Canadian seasons record of 2:06.2 over Kingston Park Raceway last week. Despite getting off to a rocky start with a break in the early going, Wintermantle came on strong at the wire to capture a two-length victory. Co-owned and driven by his trainer Kelly Sheppard of Dun- das, Ontario, Wintermantle earn- ed a quick $8,812 in his first pari- mutuel start. Hoping to perform well in front of hometown crowd should be Life Interest. Some great pitching by Kevin C. and John F. was a big help defensively and John also picked up a good triple at bat. Two home runs by Mike Morden greatly added to this vic- tory, along with key hits from Jamie Clarke, Adam Parvis, Cory Raines, Sean Roncetti and Danny Drebit. Scott Harper turned in a fine defensive performance on short- stop, throwing out several batters and holding a lot of batters to singles. Adam Jacobson has also been holding a lot of batters on base with his strong arm in the outfield. Perfect Heating had Graeme Powell pitch his second great game. The past two games he has also been MVP with his defense and batting. Ryan Tyce hit three for three along with Mike Phoenix.
