Nancy Diamond honored at Women of Distinction awards Nancy Diamond, regional and local councillor in Ward 7 Oshawa, has been named hono- rary chairman of Durham's 10th annual Women of Distinc- tion Awards Dinner, November 7. "The purpose of the Awards is to recognize the special con- tributions women make to the quality of life in our communi- ty," Stephanie Ball, president of the Oshawa and District Y.W.C.A. "To mark the anni- versary this year, we chose Nancy as chair because her long list of achievements repre- sent the kind of commitment and service demonstrated by our past winners." As the regional and local councillor in Ward 7, Ms. Dia- mond serves on Oshawa's exec- utive and public works commit- tees and on Durham's planning committee. A 1988 Women of Distinction winner, she was president of the Oshawa Senior Citizens' Centre, vice- president of Sunrise Seniors' Place and a past director of the Multicultural Council of Oshawa and District. She was also director of Out- reach Child Abuse Prevention and Education and the Durham Council on Child Abuse and Family Violence. She combines her public duties with responsi- bilities as wite and a mother to a teenaged daughter. The Awards are presented to women of accomplishment in the areas of the Arts, Commu- nity Service, Women in the Workforce, and Young Women of Distinction. Proceeds from the dinner go to help fund Y.W.C.A. programs in the Dur- ham Region. Those interested in nominat- ing an individual for an award may obtain further information and nomination forms by call- ing the Oshawa or Bowman- ville Y.W.C.A offices at (416) 576-8880 or (416) 623-9922. Tickets for the dinner go on sale this fall.
