It was great to see such a good at- tendance join together to celebrate Canada's 124th birth- day. The festivities started at 12 noon with a hamburger and hot- dog barbecue, followed with games, contests, races and the tug-of-war. A giant maple leaf was formed to sing O'Canada, followed with the cutting of the famous maple leaf cake. Special thanks to all those peo- ple who planned and organized to help make it such a fine success. And the weather couldn't have been nicer, could it? Brooklin Horticulture Society held their Annual Rose Show on Wednesday evening, June 26 at Brooklin United Church. There were some fine rose specimens on the show bench, as well as other flowers, fruits and vegetables. Special awards went to Linda Powell for the best red rose. Marg Powell won the award for the best decorative with her mini '""Tid- bit." Tom Leedle from Myrtle was the guest speaker for the evening and gave a very infor- mative talk and slide presentation on "Fences & Other Structures." - There will be no meeting in July. The next meeting will be August 25 and the topic will be "Iris." Verna Laurin, a knowledgeable irisarian from the Canadian Iris Society will be the guest speaker. Several from Ashburn attended the 50th wedding anniversary tea at Brooklin United Church last Saturday afternoon in honour of Fred and Audrey Young.
