George Roadley, owner of West Shore Marina, said the boat owned by Joseph Winterhalter of Oshawa, 'flew' by the marina at a very high speed. "Boats on the lake don't usually catch my eye, but this one was travelling very fast," he told the Star. A short time later, a boater came to the dock, shouting for them to call an ambulance, because a boat had flipped and sunk. Fortunately for the two men and two women in the boat, described as an 18' tri-hull, boaters in the area of the accident rushed to the scene to help rescue the injured. flips and sinks According to one of the rescuers, only one of the passengers was thrown clear of the overturned boat. He said the boat sunk quickly after they rescued the four from the water. Ambulance and firemen from Port Perry rushed to West Shore Marine where the injured boaters had been taken, and treated them on the dock before transferring them to Community Memorial Hospital. One woman passenger is still in hospital where she underwent surgery for a broken arm. The boat, which police estimate sustained damage of $20,000, was towed to Goreski's Marina. The accident is still under investigation. Durham Regional Police reach tentative contract The Durham Regional Police Association has reached a ten- tative contract agreement with the police force. The one-year contract gives the officers a four per cent sala- ry increase effective January 1, 'and an additional 2.3 per cent effective July 1, if the contract is ratified by the approximately 650 uniformed officers. Should the contract be ac- cepted, a first-class constable's salary would increase to $50,020, up from the present $47,014. This is in line with the provincial average of $50,200. The police association's members have been without a contract since the beginning of this year. It is to be ratified on July 23. pd C72 2 fh 3 A S cae?
