"A Family Tradition for 125 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, July 9, 1991 - 31 Local racers do well at Mosport Speedway The fast and furious regular Saturday night stock car racing action continued this past weekend at Mosport International Speedway with various winners in each of the feature races as well as a very special event that ran, a Ladies Race in Street Stock cars. The Ladies race is made up of wives or girlfriends of the guys who race every week at the speed- way. They generously donate the use of their cars so that there is a bit of variety in the program and to put on a great show for the fans. The Ladies Race first ran about a month ago (and is part of an ongoing program where there are special races at the speedway from time to time) and was so popular that the promoters of the speedway decided to bring it back for another run. Due to run a week ago, but having had some inclement weather, forced the postponement of the race until this week. Once again, it was just as thrill- ing as the first time, with lots of exciting chases, passes and nose to nose racing. Grabbing the win and a celebrated victory lap with the checkered flag was Janet Marshall of Peterborough. She was followed by Donna Smith of Blackstock and Elaine Salmers of Janetville. In the Street Stock class, the big winner of the evening was Andy Warbutton of Oshawa as he clin- ched two of the heat races as well as the feature event. Following Warbutton in the feature was Fred Shepstone of Port Perry (who also won one of the heats) and Bob Franks of Omemee. In the Sportsman class, Randy Slack had a very good night as he won both a heat race and a feature. In the Feature, he was followed by Stuart Robinson Jr. of Holland Landing (who also won a heat race) and Ken Donaldson of Sharon. The fans were treated to two Late Model feature races this week (due to rain last week) and they were both very exciting to see. In the first Late Model feature, (last week's postpone- ment) Wayne Williams of Union- ville grabbed the win followed by Al Thomson of Uxbridge and plac- ing third was Rino Montanari of Stouffville.
