26 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, July 16, 1991 " Local children enjoying soccer | If you find you are hot and need some fresh air come to the soccer fields. All you need is a lawn chair. You will be royally enter- tained by the youngsters in our area running their little legs off. Last Tuesday night Scugog Moving and Storage won 10-1 in Stouffville. John Schewaga scored five goals, John Chambers scored three, Robbie Bredin scored one and the star of the game Becky Evans scored one. Everyone played like a team, thanks to the quiet knowledgeable expertise of their coach Roy Cowling. I think Becky played even bet- ter that night to impress her dad Ron Evans who put away the tractor and the haying apparatus to come and cheer her on. We are going to insist that he give up far- ming to come to every game in the future. Congratulations to Tracie An- drews, Cheryl Moore & John Tzikas for winning the Ontario Scholarships for 1991. I can remember when Tracie had a grape war with our neighbour's daughter and they threw grapes all over the yard. The mother was not impressed. "Remember the good old days," eh Pracie! Thursday evening Homestead Furniture won 2-1 over Bowman- ville. Both goals were scored by Shawna Cornish but she was greatly supported by her team. Michelle Evans and Heather Bredin played extremely well against the big guys. Thanks to Wayne Evans who came out to cheer the girls on. I'm sure everyone enjoyed Festival Days. Did you get to vote for your favourite baby or man or lady? Well, maybe next year? We have to write more news this week for a certain neighbour of mine. He has a beautiful pool that he lets my kids use so I must try to be wordy. If you have any news please call as we'd like to keep John B happy. Hundreds enjoy Blue Grass music and wings Blue grass music was on tap Saturday afternoon at the Settlement House Shops. The concert, held in the Af- fordables parking lot, fea- tured blue grass band Blue Mule (pictured above). Former Port Perry resident, Glen MacDonald, played the banjo. He is pictured (left) playing a solo. Settlement House owners Daphne and Tom Mitchell served up barbecued chick- en wings and Caesar salad to the hungry fans. Hundreds of people turned out to watch the band and munch on chicken wings. PHOTOS BY JULIA DEMPSEY
