Kinsmen squeak by Perfect Heating In a see-saw battle that saw the lead change hands five times Port Perry Kinsmen emerged vic- torious over Greenbank Perfect Heating by a score of 12 to 11. Both teams played well both defensively and at the plate. The game started slowly with each team scoring one run in the first inning. The second inning saw Perfect explode with five unanswered runs as the Kinsmen went down in order. Perfect near- ly put the game out of reach in the top of the third but left three on base without scoring a run. The Kinsmen"s bats came alive in the bottom of the third with five runs. Perfect scored five runs in the top of the fourth and the Kinsmen failed to capitalize on three base hits and closed the in- ning trailing 11 to 6. The fifth inn- ing saw Perfect retired in order and the Kinsmen found their bats again and scored six runs on nine hits to end the game. Kinsmen's Tim White and Col- in Laird shared the pitching duties holding the opposition to singles and doubles. Chris Langford went three for three and Kevin Duncan two for two to fur- ther the Kinsmens' cause. Perfect Heatings' Tommy Kee- ble had a strong defensive game at short with several put outs to first and a single handed double play. Ben Frith anchored Perfect's tough defense at cat- cher and Steve Sutherland helped the cause at the plate going two for three. Perfect was without the services of Greg Phayre who is on the disabled list with a torn ankle ligament. We hope you get well soon Greg. Van Camp Contracting still in first place in Atom house league Last Wednesday night's soccer action saw first place team Van- Camp Contracting defeat Country Lane by a 3-1 score. Jason Whit- worth scored all three markers for the VanCamp, with Phil Krohn netting the lone marker for Country Lane. The two other atom contests whose results were available at press time were slightly more un- balanced. Port Perry Printing played an exceptional game, defeating the Legion by a 6-0 score. Despite some excellent goalten- ding by Rob Sheehan, which prevented the score from being - even higher, and some great scor- ing tries by Ashley Murphy and Brian Harris, the second place Port Perry Printing controlled the play throughtout. Mike T-ball action In T-ball action July 8 Port Escavating and Leahy's Bobcat Service played to a tie. Great fielding by John Burnett, along with two hits, one walk, two runs scored. A hit, a walk, two runs scored for Russell Madill and a grand slam homer for Craig Cannon helped to keep the score in favor of P.P.M.S. Jaime McQuaid was a hit batsman to go with a single. Hits from Whitney Howsam and Karin Suppelsa contributed to the of- fense for Ray Rankin Carpentry. DeMaio and Lawence Cook had two goals each, with Wade Ritchie and Doug Tobin contributing single markers. Manvers 2 enjoyed a similarly lop-sided victory over Nuts About Chocolate, finishing on the high end of a 7-1 score. Jarret Lee was amazing, scor- ing a double hat-trick (six goals) and Chris Bridge contributed a single goal for Manvers. Dean VanCamp was the only Nuts About Chocolate player who managed to find the opposition's net. A bit of player juggling has taken place this week, in an at- tempt to balance out the play for the remainder of the season. It is hoped that these few changes will boost some of the teams, and the- players 'and parents have been more than co-operative in agree- ing to move around midway through the season. Thank you very much for your help, as it is the aim of the Scugog Soccer Club to ensure that fun and soccer skills are the most impor- tant part of the game.
