He's 'Mom' to 48 Amazon Parrots Wayne Luke didn't intend on raising Amazon Parrots when he purchased his first parrot 10 years ago. He just wanted one of the beautiful birds for a pet. But today, he's been told he's the largest Amazon Parrot breeder in Ontario. This year has been his most successful to date, having raised 17 parrot chicks from eggs. It wasn't long after buying his first parrot Mr. Luke began to gain interest in ~ this beautiful bird. He became fascinated with parrots and began researching and reading anything he could about the breed. Through his extensive research Mr. Luke soon discovered reproduction of Amazon parrots was very difficult and had met with little success in captivity. It was then he began to look at prospect of breeding them as a challenge and began to purchase breeding pairs. After seven years of trial and error his efforts finally paid off when his first Amazon chick was hatched. It remains his biggest thrill to date, and he still proudly shows a photo he took of the chick with a hand written message scrawled on the back which says, "success at last." Raising parrot chicks from eggs is a lon and tiring process. The eggs are remove from the nest box one week after being laid and placed into an incubator for 28 days. During this time, they are monitored day and night, until the chicks finally hatch.
