A "A Family Tradition for 125 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, July 23, 1991 - 31 Greenbank Tennis Camp attracts several children Greenbank children learned the basics of tennis this sum- mer in the villages' first sum- mer tennis camp. The first camp included chil- dren between the ages of 7and 10 and according to Joanne Gross who started the program, there will be a camp later in the summer for an older group of teens. The camp, currently in its last week runs Wednesdays and Thursdays for four weeks. The children learn the basics of tennis including court eti- quette, different shots, and the fundamentals of the sport such as scoring. Joanne Gross decided to start the summer program be- cause of the lack of programs in the area for children. The ten- nis camp is a satellite through Scugog Parks and Recreation. She said she would like to see it run on a yearly basis and- maybe turn it into a sports camp incorporating basketball and baseball along with tennis. The cost for eight sessions is $40, each session lasts one and a halfhour. The children take part in a tournament at the end of the year, and awards are handed out. There will also be a barbe- cue on Thursday evening to mark the end of the camp. Ball Hockey action In game one Monday night the Bullets defeated the Raid- ers 4-2. The first win came on Tues- day, July 16 against Oshawa Shamrocks. The offence was fir- ing on all cylinders as the Le- gionaires pushed across 24 runs. Leading the Legionaires was Jason Best with one hit and four walks. Owen St. John and Doug Short banged out four hits apiece, while Ryan Wil- liamson, Jason Heyworth, Ryan Puckrin, Casey VanS- chagen, Brad Monsma and Ryan Hawkins kicked in with two hitseach. Jason Heyworth and Jason Best shared the pitching in this game with Jason Heyworth go- ing the first five innings and having another strong outing then Jason Best came in to give Jason Heyworth a break due to the heat. The following night the boys travelled to Vaughan where the offence continued to put runs on the board and Jason Hey- worth continued to lead the de- fence with his pitching.
