"A Family Tradition for 125 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, July 30, 1991 - 11 Big Top circus brings t The Big Top circus is coming to Port Perry. One ~of America's oldest three-ring circuses, the Kelly- Miller Circus, rolls into Port Perry early Monday, August 12 to set up their tents and prepare for two great shows. Kelly-Miller officials invite the public to come out early circus morning and watch as the more than 25 brightly Don Cochrane calls it quits from local politics From Page 1 right. As a politician he should give them the facts, whether they want to hear them or not. "I suppose if I stayed in poli- tics another 50 years, I wouldn't make a good politi- cian. I don't tell people what they want to hear." Councillor Cochrane says he is not entirely happy with everything that is going on in the municipality at the present and has had a few disappoint- ments during his time. "I'm afraid a lot of the work that we've done will go to naught because we can't get it in the near future." Perhaps the biggest disap- pointment for Councillor Co- chrane is that the construction of the proposed recreation cen- tre did not get underway. He blames both time and financial restraints as the main factors behind this failure. This worries him however, as he knows the realities of poli- tics. "Once the money tree is cut down, it's hard to get it going again." Despite this diasappoint- ment he is proud of some achievements that he has been a part of over his tenure includ- ing the location and construc- tion of S.A. Cawker Public School, which was a conten- tious issue for quite a while. As far as making a comeback is concerned, he says "circum- stance will dictate," but he knows a return to politics is al- ways tough. "If I find I miss it too much, I may try to come back, but once you're out for a while people for- getina hurry." But for now he is going to de- vote his time towards his fami- ly, and his auctioneering busi- ness which he says will "be the Jos thing I give up if it comes to that."
