PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, July 30, 1991 - 35 More than 100 golfers participated in the Caesarea Regat- ta Golf Tournament held at the Sunnybrae Golf & Country Club last Saturday, including Richard Miller, of Caesarea (above). Prizes were awarded in a number of categories. In the seniors category Harry Gay took top spot, while Frank McCourt was runner-up. The President's Trophy went to Bruce Fairman, the runner-up was Neil Pearce. Brent Seguin took the Invitational Trophy, while the runner-up prize was awarded to Joe Thomas. The junior prize went to Lawson Gay, and the runner-up was Sandy Marr. The weather was close to perfect for a round of golf. They played Aurora on July23 and won this game easi- ly by a score of 26-0, and the game was called after five in- nings. Matt Kay pitched the com- plete game, allowing only two singles and struck out nine batters. Although Port won by a big score, the game did not start easily for the MoJacks' batters as the score was only 3-0 after three innings. Once again the mighty batters for Port came to the plate and unleashed their power and scored 21 runs in the fourth inning. In the fifth inning, Port scored two more runs. The ModJdacks hitters were: Ian Shrigley one double, three walks; Kenton LeFort one dou- ble, one single, two walks; Jer- emy Geer two singles, one dou- ble, one walk; Jay King one triple, one single; Brad Morton one single, one walk; Jasen Haliburton two walks; Jasen Logan two singles, two walks; Bill Zaparanuik one home run, one triple, one walk; Collin Meijerink one walk; Matt Kay one triple, one walk; Jay Tred- way two walks; Tommy Cham- bers one walk. Game 2: East Gwillimbury vs. Mojacks, July 24 East Gwillimbury travelled to Port and the ModJacks were up for this game, as they had lost a previous game 12-11 and the players were determined to return the favor. Guess what happened at seven complete in- nings: Port MoJacks 13 and East Gwillimbury 12. ) East Gwillimbury scored the first run and Port scored two runs. Again, East Gwillimbury scored three more runs in the second and Port zero. East Gwillimbury batters came to life in the seventh in- ning and were able to score five runs to tie the game. Port's first batter grounded out and with one out the 'mighty Jay King came to bat. After the first pitch, Jay had one strike and when the East Gwillimbury pitcher threw his pitch, MoJack King swung and drove the ball to deep centre field. Jay's hit was a home run and all of the Port players, coaches and parents were up on their feet. Bill Zaparanuik pitched a complete game, striking out eight. Game 3: Port ModJacks vs. Co- bourg Legion, July 25 This was Modacks' third straight game and it was going -to be a tough game. Port and Cobourg had each won one game with Port winning the last game at Port 14-4 on June 14. Cobourg opened the scoring in the first inning and scored two runs. Finally, in the third inning Port scored three runs, two more in the fourth inning, two runs in the fifth and our fi- nal run in the seventh inning. Matt Kay's pitching and Port's defensive efforts allowed only one run in the sixth in- ning. The final score was Mo- jacks 8, Cobourg 3. Matt al- nine hits and fanned four batters. Port's hitters contacted for 12 hits and Jay King had two home runs; Jasen Logan one home run; Craig Laird one walk; Bill Zaparanuik one triple; Brad Morton one single; Ian Shrigley one single; Jere- my Geer one single; Jay Tred- way two singles; Matt Kay one single; Kenton LeFort one sin- gle; Collin Meijerink one sinle.
