Pee Wee Bantam girls tourney to be held Sunday in Port Perry Pee Wee Bantam girls softball on August 7 saw the P.P.M.S. "Red" team defeat Valu-Mart by a score of 19-14. Playing a strong game for Valu- Mart was Amy Sinclair, who had good strong hits and quick base running. Kim Rollo's bat was really hot - blasting out two home runs. Billy-Jo Wray was so ag- gressive in her running that she almost did a flip coming into home plate with a spectacular slide. A well deserved run! P.P.M.S. "Red" girls' bats were really knocking the balls out. Amy Plain's bat was really connecting and she topped her night with a grand slam. Lori Short was smacking the ball around and made a good catch in centre field. Adrian Fowler made a super, running catch and was a great help in keeping Valu-Mart girls back. In Greenbank P.P.M.S. "Burgundy "' girls had to forfeit to Country Siding because of low numbers. These girls split up and had a fun night of ball practising up for the tournament! Players for Ray Rankin were Dana Harper, Steven Schewaga, Michael Wiseman, Sonya Wiseman, Adam Sinclair, Jonathon Sanders, Karin Sup- pelsa, Rosemarie Sax, Chad Lance, Franklyn Trainor, Adam Smith, Matthew Rankin, Steven Trainor, Jamie McQuaid and Russel Brown. Great game, good luck for the rest of the season. Saintfield Machining's lineup included Tommy Kittle, Donald Campbell, Jonathan Lobac, Mat- thew Sanchez, Daniel Petron- jevic, who unfortunately will not be playing for the rest of the season due to injuries, Chad Yakeley, Joel Thomson, Michael Giannini, Bryon Brown, Shauna Simmonds, Amy Postma, Caitlin Donnelly, Derek Shaddock, who made some spectacular catches to score all three outs in the first inning, and Graham Sutherland. Awesome ball game guys and gals, keep it up. Saintfield came out on top of this one with a final score of 17 to 6. Thanks very much to two very brave gentlemen, Frank Trainor for being home plate umpire and to Bob Brown for being first base umpire. Port Perry Team. G defeated Manvers Team 2, by a score of 7-1. Tyler Houthuys had an amaz- ing game, scoring all seven goals! James Stevenson performed very well on defense, and Jason Johan- son also had an excellent game. Port Perry Team F did not fare so well against Manvers Team 1, as they fell by a score of 2-0. The two goals by Phillip Lake helped Manvers to continue on their road to a perfect season. Team F had several chances but luckily for Manvers, none were converted to goals. The Rotary Club snd Raglan Welding had an interesting match-up, with Raglan Welding actually winning the game by default. But in the spirit of 'good sportsmanship Raglan lent Rotary some players, who went on to win the practice game, 3-0. A super offensive effort was put in by all, and Katie Bierness, Glen Thomson and Ashley Ray each scored a goal. Thomas Lee demonstrated a stunning effort as goaltender. Team H managed to shut out Team E, to win their game by a score of 3-0. Jeff Crosier scored two and Tony Boomsma com- pleted the scoring with one more. The shut out was as a result of fine net-minding by Andy Drebit, Steven Williams and Nicholas Byers. Team E managed to hold the damage to only one goal until late in the second half. Strong efforts were put in by Chris Wygerde, Jennifer Vander- muller and Liam McKeracher. Unfortunately, no results are available from the game between Scugog Lumber and City Capital. Coaches, don't forget to hand in your game reports! Big V shuts out Williams Arms in mini soccer Last week saw more exciting match-ups at the soccer fields. Big V managed to shut out Williams' Arms, and won their game 2-0. Goals for Big V. were scored by Meghan Smith and Alex McKay. Holly Allison has shown improvement and - hustled throughout the game as well. Blake and Tyler Cunningham and Keri Vernooy played a strong game for Williams' Arms. Bruton's IDA and IGA ended up in a 0-0 draw. It was a closely fought contest with notable plays by Andrew Hale, Adam Smart and Todd Lance from the IGA team. Michael Sheehan and Emi- ly Davis countered for Bruton's. The Lions Club defeated Fowler, Davies by a score of 2-0. The first goal came from Chet Martin, assisted by Kevin Robins. In the second half Kevin Robins doubled the score with a goal off of a goalie kick. Honourable men- tion goes to Bridgette Palleske and Derek Goreski. Despite the loss, Fowler, Davies team was again looking better with everyone getting a foot on the ball. Even the youngest player, Robert Mark, got into the thick of the action. Sportsland just edged out Darlene Colton Photography by 1-0, with a fine team effort. Erin Edwards scored the first and on- ly goal. The Sportsland coaching staff was proud of the entire team in their play. Darlene Colton Photography also managed an ex- cellent game despite being disad- vantaged by playing short- handed. Ridge North Realty defeated Taylor Home Fuels, 3-0. Justin Shinn scored twice, and Chad Wansborough rounded off the scoring with one. Nelson Langmaid tried and tried again to score, but despite many shots on goal he just couldn't manage one, largely due to excellent goal ten- ding on behalf of Taylor Home Fuels. Pee Wee boys softball In the first playoff game of the Pee Wee/Bantams division, Greenbank Bakery held off a late inning rally by Port Perry to record an exciting 9-8 victory. The Greenbank offense was led by Brian Bacon with two solid hits, by Tim Irwin with two walks and a single and by Joe Timms with the longest hit of the year -- a ground rule double that went in- to the parking lot at S.A. Cawker but somehow managed to go under a car! Carl Phoenix was the pitching hero for Greenbank with a scoreless third inning while com- ing to the rescue in the last inning to hold back the valiant Port Perry rally. The courageous Port Perry comeback was spearheaded by Dereck Christie who continued his amazing "base on balls" streak with three more walks and by Jeremey Stevens who combined a first inning two-run triple with a last inning run-producing walk. Rick Olaisen managed to keep Port Perry in the game with two outstanding scoreless innings of pitching against the potent Green- bank hitters that finished the regular season with a .467 team batting average!
