REIL, PONTIAC BUICK LIMITED 10 Vanedward Drive, Port Perry 985-8474 Canada and U.S. brought together in Lions exchange The last month has been a busy time for Tanya Latreille and Shelley Bineau. The two girls have been par- ticipating in an international Li- ons Club exchange program. The exchange started on July 20 when Tanya, a Scugog Is- land resident, travelled to Shelley's home in Deep River, Connecticut. During the visit south of the border, Tanya and Shelley trav- elled to New York (a two-and-a half hour trip by train) and vis- ited some of the historic land- marks in the area. Some of the points of interest the girls saw were the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, the Hard Rock Cafe, the Twin Tow- ers, the St. Patrick Cathedral and Fifth Avenue. On August 3, Shelley accom- panied Tanya back to Ontario. The Latrielle family was kept busy showing her many of the province's attractions such as Niagara Falls, Ontario Place, the CN Tower, the Cirque du Soliel, and Prudhommes Amusement Park. "It's really great having Shel- ley here," Tanya's mother, Don- na, said, adding her visit has given the Latrielle family an ex- cuse to see some of the local at- tractions which they had never visited before. Although Deep River is simi- lar in size to Port Perry, Shelley noticed a definite difference in the two towns. Buildings are better restored here than in Connecticut, she said. Prices are also much higher in Canada. The girls should know. They've done a lot of shopping while on the ex- change program. One item that Shelley no- ticed to be significantly more expensive was blue jeans. Tanya Latreille and Shelley Bineau have been participat- ing in a Lions Club exchange program for the past four weeks. See story for details. Over the past four weeks, Tanya and Shelley have devel- oped a terrific friendship. The girls hope to get together in the winter for a family ski trip in Vermont. And the girls said they would like to try the exchange pro- gram again, but only if they were paired up together. Memories at Decoration Service A Decoration Service was held at Greenbank United Cemetery on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Keith Phoenix acted as chairman. Rev. Jack Roundell used as his message "Memories." This was so appropriate as each decorated tombstone carried "its own memories for all who attended. We enjoyed visiting with Alma Roundell. Mrs. Rita Stickwood sang "More Love To Thee" and later 'Beyond The Sunset."' Lin- da Hunter accompanied Rita playing the organ. It was a love- ly service with everyone having their own memories of this place! The August meeting of W.1. will be held at the home of Dierdre Earle on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. The roll call is **'Name a Canadian who has benefitted mankind." Ladies, don't forget the articles of food for the 'Operation Scugog Food Bank." The cupboard is bare!! Miss Earla Hill went "White Water Rafting' at Forester Falls on the Ottawa River last week.
