Storm damage Trees downed but no hail in Utica Church service for the United Church will be held in Epsom this Sunday at 11 a.m. Rev. Jim Bewell hopes to be back behind the pulpit at this time. Anyone having items for the Sept. newsletter please get them to Clara Jones by Sunday. Looking ahead to Sept. 6, the church board will be planning a beef barbecue in Utica Hall. More details as they unfold. There were 14 tables of euchre played on Friday evening in Utica Hall. Winners were as follows: Ladies - 1st - Verna Slute, 2nd - Daisy Sellers and 3rd - Peggy Hood. Men's - 1st - Rita Parratt, 2nd - Bill Brown and 3rd - Irwin Kydd. Freeze-out winners were Mary Poots & Mary Cannon, Lloyd & Alice Greig were second. Draws were won by Verna Slute, Neil Postill and Jenny Watson. The winner of the 50/50 draw was Jean Pogue. There will be another euchre on August 30 (two weeks). Lorne & Eileen Slute spent a few days at the Bob Cruikshank cottage at Coe Hill. On Saturday evening they attended the Slute family picnic at the home of Lloyd Slute, Raglan. From what I hear about sur- rounding areas and the damage done by the recent storms, we in Utica were lucky. We didn't get the hail and to my knowledge the worse that happened was the downing of trees. By now everyone probably has their yard cleaned up and back to normal and some will have firewood for the winter. If you live in this area and can give me a hand with news, a new baby, a special birthday or an- niversary, special visits, anything that will contribute to this col- umn, please give me a call at 985-7564 by Sunday evening. Also if anyone has just moved into this area, we'd like to know.
