Travis Hockley and Ryan Fraser, second, and Nick Skerratt on third, our infield was ready. Final score 7-2. P.S.: Great season boys. Those few grey hairs, don't give it a se- cond thought. I really do enjoy a close game, thanks. Thank you to the organizers, umpire and all parents and friends who supported the teams. Midget Merchants eliminated at All-Ontario games This week's Midget Merchants sports report is sponsored by Scugog Rental and Deshane Auc- tion Services. This past weekend, the Midgets attended the "All Ontario' games in Waterford and their victory parade was rained on in more ways than one. In the first game, travel fatigue plus Cal Fryer, one of the two strong pitchers in the tournament that Port has met before, saw us take a hard 12-0 loss to Fergus. This Fergus team was one of the favourites to win the "All On- tario" title. Fryer struck out 12 batters and allowed only two hits - a double and triple off the bat of Brough. This was one game the players and coaches were glad was over, and the team feeling was "'Let's get on with the rest of the games!" The MVP for Port Perry was Richard Brough. In the second game, Port Perry met the home town favourite, Waterford, and started strong in the first inning on a grand slam home run by Darrell Vander Slagt. Port's hits continued, and Brough pitched an excellent game leading the team to a 9-2 win. Port's MVP for this game was Scott MacLennan. Once these games were over, the fun started, beginning with the weather man, and ending with the umpire-in-chief and OASA ex- ecutive members having to make some tough calls. Port's third game was against Garson. Their pitcher, Paul Fit- chett, sent the Port team home from the All Ontarios two years ago on the losing end of two mat- ches scored at 2-1 and 3-2. Junior & Senior - $125.00 rain delays, a Cochrane home run which put Port back in the runn- ing, a player lost due to an injury, and a player ejected from the game. At the time of the ejection, the game was tied 3-3 in the ninth inning. Port had only seven more at bat before coming to the posi- tion left empty by the ejection. If still tied at that point, Garson would have won by default as Port had no more players on the bench to insert into the game. However, the weatherman said "Enough is enough' and the rain became so heavy that the game was cancelled by the OASA ex- ecutive, and was rescheduled for Sunday morning as a totally new game. Unfortunately, history repeated itself as Garson eliminated Port from the tournament as they did two years ago. Puckrin pitched 14 straight innings of excellent ball A E-- Canadian Figure Skating Association before being relieved by Brough. Port's bats were cold and could not produce the runs when need- ed to support their fine pitching effort. The final score of the game was 7-2. Tim Timms and Richard Brough were chosen as the MVPs of the game for Port. Tim also got the end of a bum rap, and only the parents, players, and Nurse Eva will know what that means. The coaches and team members were glad to hear that the injury to John Ennis was not as serious as expected, and will be glad to have him back at his regular spot in the line-up for the next game. It is always discouraging when a team is eliminated from a ma- jor tournament, but the parents and coaches are proud of the way the Midget players represented Port Perry. Only one round league game was played last week, and Port beat Oshawa 10-4 on a strong team effort. Hitters for the week: Brough, five singles, two doubles, two triples, and four RBIs; Cochrane, two singles, one home run, two RBIs; Ennis, three singles, two RBIs; Laird, four singles, one RBI; MacLennan, three singles, one double; McBride, one single, one double, two RBIs; Moase, two singles, two RBIs; Timms, four singles, one double, one RBI; Vanderligt, two singles; Vander Slagt, five singles, one home run, eight RBIs.
