Sun, heat, humidity, bees, hot tub, swimming, lightning, torrential rains, sun smiling faces, delicious food, excellent tennis, team spirit and keen competition. What more does one need for a fun-filled ten- nis weekend? This describes the annual Men's and Ladies' Doubles Tournament. The tennis was amazing resulting in some very hard fought three-set matches. In the Men's Division con- gratulations to the team of John Rickey and Werner Mees, emerg- ing victorious over John Scott and Ken Elliott 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. In the con- solation side Morley Davidson and Scott McTavish won over Horst Beitinger and Bob Alex- ander, 6-2, 6-4. In the Ladies Division con- gratulations to the mother and daughter team of Georgia Brock and Sophia Brendon who won over Winnie Tobin and Laurie Cooper, 7-6, 2-6, 6-2. In the con- solation round another mother and daughter team, Heather and Kendra McCrae were defeated in three sets by Sally Martin and Sandy Greenwood, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. Thirteen juniors took an active part in this tournament taking up the challenge. Unfortunately, due to low registration, the OTA Junior Tournament has been cancelled for this weekend. On the tennis circuit PPTC member Sophia Brendon and her partner Scott Radford from the Peterborough Nautilus Club won the Consolation in an OTA Open Mixed Doubles Tournament held at the Peterborough Quaker Club recently. Competing teams were from Toronto, Fenelon Falls and Peterborough. On the lighter side of tennis, fashion relates to the scanty and sometimes colourful outfits worn on the courts that would never be worn anywhere else on earth. See you on the courts! Six teams participated in final T-Ball tournament The Port Perry Minor T-Ball season came to a close on Friday, August 16 with all six teams in ac- tion for one last game at R.H. Cornish. Game 1 - Leahy's Bobcat Ser- vice vs Cottrell's Cuspids. A good solid team effort from both teams with Micheal Red- man, Chris Racknor and Kaleb Beer starring for Leahy's while Jordan Jaques, Justin Cottrell and Corey Stainton starring for Cottrell's. Game 2 - Brian's Towing vs Durward's Driveway Sealing. Another exciting game with Lisa Geer, Jeffery Corbett and David DeKoning starring for Dur- ward's while Anthony Surman, Amanda Spears, and Christopher Firlotte starred for Brian's. Game 3- Mayne Farms vs Port Perry Excavating. Both teams played an exciting and evenly matched game with Troy Johnston, Justin Koury and Benjamin Eade starring for Mayne while starring for Port Perry were Kyle Archibald, Krysta-Leigh Johnston and Jef- fery Tripp. After the games, all the players were treated to pop and chips.
