"A Family Tradition for 125 Years" RN % AA uy ' "\ > "In loving memory of Melanie Harris 1977-1991. Sadly missed by her friends and neighbors of Sexton Street." That is the inscription on the plaque on the park bench, in memo- ry of the young girl who was tragically killed in a traffic acci- dent, recently. The neighbors of Sexton Street, in Victorian Village, raised money to place the bench, as well as a small garden, in a park behind Sexton Street. Julle Harris, Mela- nie's older sister, said the family has received many letters from residents of Port Perry and wish to thank them for writ- ing, as well as for the special dedication. Township denies request for funds Township of Scugog Council turned down the request for money to fund an upcoming ta- too festival in Port Perry. Bill Barr, bandshell chair- man, was at council on Monday to request a grant of approxi- mately $3,200 in order to stage a mini tatoo festival on Sunday, September 15. But council turned down the request stating that it didn't have the funds available to give tosuch an event. Mr. Barr was asking for the money to be used to pay for five bands as well as the rental of the poblie address system. The one-day event is to begin at Port Perry High School and work its way to the bandshell where the bands will perform. Mr. Barr estimates that be- tween 2,000 to 3,000 people will takein the day's events. Despite having his request for the money rejected, he is de- termined to see the event take place. Mr. Barr said instead of the municipality money, he will solicit funds from local busi- nesses.
