"We believed that the tests were being conducted on behalf of us, not them," Mrs. Copit- horn told council. It appears some members of council felt the same way as Mrs. Copithorn. Ward two councillor Marilyn Pearce told council "in all fairness it doesn't sound like it was a fair test be- cause it wasn't conducted on a level playing field." She called on council to make a decision on this matter as the noise problem has been going on for too long. It was decided that a second noise test, at an additional cost of approximately $1,500, was not the solution, and instead voted in favor of councillor Glenn Malcolm's suggestion of forming an ad hoc committee to look into the problem. This committee will be made up of councillors Pearce, Malcolm, as well as Area Councillor Don Co- chrane. Mrs. Copithorn, as well as Sharon Wiseman, another resi- dent of Heath Crescent, said they were "encouraged" by the decision to form the committee. They believe this group will fi- nally get down to making some useful recommendations. Mrs. Wiseman says it is time the situation was resolved, and vowed to keep up the fight for a solution to this problem. ""Moth- er Jackson's have to realize that we are not going to go away." The residents of Heath Cres- cent have been complaining about the noise generated by the delivery trucks, as well as the compressor fans, since an addition was built onto the plant more than a year-and-a- half ago. They have expressed their concerns to both the own- ers of the factory as well as council, but a peaceful solution has yet to be resolved. The residents acknowledge the fact that Mother Jackson's is an important industry in town, but feel they could alter the plant in such a way as to al- leviate the noise problem. But Mrs. Wiseman says the plant has done little to remedy the situation because that would be admitting there is a noise problem, and she says the owners aren't ready to admit that.
