GM Pro Bass Classic The GM Pro Bass Classic in Peterborough will be the fishing tournament of 1991 - the winner takes home a 1991 Blazer and fully-loaded Ranger bass boat! The Pro-Bass Association is the most professional and en- vironmentally devoted tourna- ment in Ontario. See Bob Izumi from the Real Fishing Show, the stars of the Fishn' Canada Show, and The Fishin' Technishin. He will be there to service the pros with all their emergency repairs and to service the general public with their fishing problems. The public are invited to bring their fishing reels, any vintage, any make, for free reel inspection at Rice Lake, (Bewdley, near Peterborough), on Labour Day weekend August 30, 31, and September 1. The Fishin' Technishin will be available to the public at his waterfront mobile service repair vehicle throughout the tourna- ment, offering pro-fishing tips as well as reel analysis. Brad Johnstone, The Fishin' Technishin, has been in reel repair and a charter boat fishing for 20 years. He has a record of catching the big ones! He also teaches courses on fishing and gives seminars, and owns a full time business repairing reels and trolling motors in Barrie (his home town) and Mississauga. Look for Mr. Johnstone and his family and Pro-staff at the GM Pro-Bass Classic at Rice Lake on Labour Day weekend - this is a "Reel Live Fishing Show!"' From Corner Five by John 'Wally' Nesbitt As the racing season winds down, the action is heating up at Mos- port Speedway and with just four races left, watch for Mother Nature to be a deciding factor. Oshawa's Racing Real Estate Agent, Andy Warbutton, has led the Street Stock division for most of the season but recently has been subject- ed to three engine inspections and one disqualification for refusing a Tech- Spec. He now finds himself in second spot, chasing the defending series champ, Rod Marshall of Cavan. Bob Franks, in his Ziebart colors, is cur- rently in third place and still within striking distance of the leaders as the year comes to a close. Mike Mole, in the M+M Tire racer, may have gotten off to a late start this season but his car is very quick and Mike now finds himself in eighth overall leading Dave Lee of Nestleton and Port Perry's Fred Shepstone. "Mad" Murray Hill from Janetville in the Wilson Auto Parts 747 car rounds out the local drivers, securely sitting in 17th spot. Talking of things heating up, did you see those sparks fly when the Late Model points leader, Tom Milligan and Caesarea's Dave Taylor went at it two weeks ago? Tempers are getting hot, too. Basically, it is a two car battle for the series title between Milligan and last year's champi- on, Al Thomson from Uxbridge, but with the renewed competition, things could be positively steaming by season's end. Rick Sauder from Uxbridge and Andy Salmers of Janetville are holding down the 10th and 11th places and just two spots back sits the Camaro of Port Perry's Trevor Jones. Rod Sauder is in 19th place overall and Davey Taylor is in 21st, but the points battle is so tight, a string of good results could mean a major jump in the standings. But you can't speak of tight points fights and not think of Mosport's Sportsman class. The largest fields at the track belong to this class and it also boasts the greatest number of series leaders with the man on the point seemingly changing with every race. Currently sitting atop the standings is the Port Perry Auto Wreckers Lumina of Daryl Leatherdale, but breathing down his neck and ready to attack are Randy Slack in the Connelly's Minut Muffler Camaro and Hol- land Landing's Stu Robinson. John Dummitt of Lakefield is presently in fourth place but still close enough to mount an assault on the leaders. Cannington's Brian Bassett and Bob Moxon of Janetville battled each other for last year's title and are still doing quite well although they sit in sixth and 10th places, respectively. Richard Wagner of Blackstock is the last of the local drivers and could move into the top 20 with some quality finishes in the final four events. This exciting racing season is quickly drawing to a close, so grab that extra sweater, buy another hot coffee, pray, pray, pray for good weather and come on out to Mosport Speedway and enjoy this action before it slips away for the winter.
