A program entitled STOP (Students Together Opening Possibilities) is in its first year at the high school, and its main purpose is to make the transi- tion from public to high school as smooth as possible. STOP consists of 55 students from all grades, and levels as well as several teachers. The group was formed at the end of school in June by teach- ers. The group met at the high school last week for the third time to finalize plans before the start of school. Previously the group met at Camp Samac in June to work on leadership. The students have been placed in groups and each group has been assigned a dif- ferent Grade 9 homeroom. In these homerooms they will keep the new students in- formed on clubs and other ac- tivities going on at the school. The STOP members will be sporting purple T-shirts mak- them easier to find. They will be ready to help direct lost students and answer any ques- tions. The Grade 9 students will also be given a welcome pack- age on their first day which will include: maps, information on class lengths, attendance pro- cedures, and school clubs. This is the first year for this program which transpired from the teachers publication enti- tled the "Transition Years Task Force", and those involved would like to see it continue for many years.
