"Scu Condensor at arena is blamed for surprise ice delay The relocation of a condenser at Scugog Arena, and not the ongoing roof repairs is to blame for the delay of the ice being put in, said Glenn McCoy, chair- man of Arena Board. The ice at the arena was ten- tatively scheduled to go in on Sept.3 but is now slated to be ready for Sept. 14. Mr. McCoy told The Port Perry Star that the roof repairs are going as scheduled and the delay in the ice is not directly related tothese repairs. It was recommended to Scu- gog Council in a report that the condenser located on the arena roof be relocated to a pad on ground level. By relocating this 'condenser the roof repairs would be much easier. The delay resulted when Simcoe Engineering, the com- pany hired to remove the con- denser, could not move it until the first week of Sept., despite our efforts to find a way to have it done earlier, Mr. McCoy said. As of Tuesday morning, Mr. McCoy told the Star the plant and condenser are hooked up, and it is hoped to be turned on by Thursday (tomorrow) at the latest. There could be ice as early as next week, but the arena board has put the opening off until Sept. 14 to be sure it will be ready for the user groups.
