PORT PERRY STAR - Wednesday, September 4, 1991 - 29 pa i Bll Hammond and Anna Beaton did not win Wednesday's mixed pairs lawn bowling tournament but they did what few others have done, they bowled a perfect 8 end. Midgets playing .700 ball heading into tournament This week's sports report is sponsored by Mike Tobin Photography and Kentucky Fried Chicken. The Port Perry Midgets are peaking for their league play-offs by continuing their winning form. Game 1 on Friday saw Port beat Bramalea 8-2 on a well pit- ched game by Richard Brough who struck out five, and allowed only two walks and two earned runs. The team was ahead 5-0 at the end of the second inning and never looked back. Game 2 on Thursday was an im- portant four-point match in Bramalea and a win would see Port stay in second place, and possibly catch the Scarborough Reds who are the first place team at present. Again, fine execution and strong pitching by Brett Puckrin led Port to a 12-3 win. Puckrin struck out three, allow- ing no walks and three earned runs. In the fourth, Port sent 12 The Port Perry Star Scugog Township's Award Winning Community Newspaper Awards for: BEST FRONT PAGE BEST EDITORIAL PAGE PHOTOGRAPHY + ADVERTISING BEST ALL ROUND PAPER batters to the plate and seven runs scored on timely hitting.
