Wedding of Interest On Saturday, August 24, the home of Chris and Carlyn Vine was the setting for the lovely wed- ding of Helen Vine and Barrie Deyell. Rev. Dale Davis officiated and their attendants were Jean and Arnold Williams, sister and brother-in-law of the bride. Herb Vine thrilled the guests as he sang "O Perfect Love' and from the musical "Phantom of the Opera' - '""That's All I Ask Of You." The reception was held at Nestleton Community Centre, and was in the capable hands of Nestleton U.C.W. Many more friends and relatives joined the bride and groom later in the evening for a dance and social time. Very best wishes to Helen and Barrie for much happiness! Nestleton United Church Chuck & Carol Hill, Matthew & Aaron, were the friendly greeters at the door on Sunday, September 1, at 11:15 a.m. with a smaller at- tendance than usual. Rev. Dale Davis brought to the congregation a splendid message for Labour Day Weekend entitled "The Merit Of Work' with Lawrence Malcolm reading Scripture from Luke 15: 11-24 & 25-32. The congregation were very pleased and interested in the music Lawrence Malcolm presented to them on his "Keyboard;" he brought out the melodious music of different in- struments and his chosen number was 'Jesus is the Sweetest Name I Know." This excellent service closed with hymn "God Who Gives To Life Its Goodness' written by Walter Henry Farquharson in 1936 - Benediction and Three Fold Amen. The organist - Gwendolyn Malcolm. News of Families Aaron Hill, Scugog Point, has been visiting family for the last week. He spent a week with his grandparents Rev. John & Doris Hill in Langley, B.C., then flew to Sault Ste. Marie with his mother Carol, to visit his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. William Leaney. This week, Aaron and Carol spent a day in Ottawa! William Leishman of Reaboro, has been visiting with grandma Neta Fish of Cadmus, and the Calvin Holland family this past week. His mother Audrey was a supper guest; then William returned home with her in preparation for school, on Thurs- day evening. Sam & Mabel Cawker were by | Mabel Cawker pleased to have Neta for lunch after the service on Sunday and a wonderful visit was enjoyed before she returned home. Neta's Aunt Jane Boyes of Carnduff, Sask. - a 95 year old lady has had hip surgery, and is currently a patient in Regina Hospital; is doing very well in- deed; in great spirits, and expects to have therapy before leaving the hospital for home. Our very best wishes to a great lady, for a com- plete recovery! A Mighty Fine Fair The 1991 version of the Port Perry Fair is now history and organizers say they are very pleased with the Labour Day Weekend. With ideal weather con- ditions and some new attractions; there were great crowds of people for the three days. I believe there were 1000 more on Sunday this year over last year. A wonderful fair! The Ontario South District Women's Institute display featur- ing "save our trees" was tremen- dous! It was held in the Christie Building under the direction of Helen McKean, with an assistant from each branch in the district. The Pennies for Friendship jars were well filled with bills, loonies, silver and coppers in aid of our In- ternational organization - who assist the poor countries, in their valuable work! A '"'pat on the back' to the fair board president Keith Phoenix and secretary-treasurer Shirley ° Hunter and their able committee. The Nestleton United Church General U.C.W. meeting will be held in the church on Wednesday evening, Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. After- noon Unit in charge. Guest speaker Marilyn Wallace of Scugog Island will present a resume of her trip to India and show interesting slides. Nestleton & Blackstock ladies as well as the men folk are invited to attend. The evening will wind up with a tasty lunch. See you there! Apple festival and craft sale We are one year old...or, more specifically, our Apple Festival and Craft Sale is a one-year old event. But what an event! As reported by everyone who attended our first ever Apple Festival and Craft Sale -- the general public, the participants, and the merchants in Downtown Bowmanville -- everyone said the event was an overwhelming suc- cess. Indeed, for that day, we were the "center of Apple Country." Even the poor weather did not dampen the enthusiasm of the hundreds who attended. For those who were not there, just close your eyes and picture...the Mar- quee Tents filled with homemade country crafts, for sale to eager shoppers...outside, the smell of sizzling apple fritters and warm apple pies for sale to the hungry public...music from fiddlers and country bands...and all in a set- ting of fresh apples and apple cider for sale from our local orchards. A harvest-time event in an old Ontario town which is currently being restored to its original 19th century heritage. To encourage visitors to visit the many in- teresting shops and businesses, a "Passport To Apple Country" is given to those who attend. Once the passport has been validated by ten stores in the downtown, then the participant is eligible to enter a draw for one of several prizes.
