More than 500 people crowded the General Sikorski Hall in Oshawa Friday night for the 9th annual Durham Regional Police Awards Night. The night is set aside once a year to honor civil- ians and police officers from the Region for acts of bravery and for exemplary service to the depart- ment and community. Mayors and councillors from the entire Region were present to see residents of their communities honored for distinguished acts of bravery and take part in presenting plaques to the recipients. Also taking part in the ceremonies were retired Police Chief Jon M. Jenkins, members of both Provincial and Federal governments, Regional Chairman Gary Herrema, chairman of the Durham Regional Police Services Board, Mayor Robert Attersley and Police Chief David J. Edwards. Four officers received the 30 year Canadian Police Exemplary Service Bar. They were Chief of Police David J. Edwards; Staff Sergeant Douglas C. Aird; Acting Staff Sergeant Edward Forgette and Constable Robert J. Reid. Nine officers recieved the 20 year Canadian Police Exemplary Service Bar. They included Staff Seargeant Anthony Turner; Sergeant Edward P. Dionne; Sergeant Steven Powell and Constables Lorne Annis, Brian Curtis, Douglas Higgs, James Hunter, Walford White and Stanley Wonnacott.
