"A Family Tradition for 125 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, September 10, 1991 - 23 Fitness and Health the 4-H Way is the topic at the autumn course Bethesda 4 H Club starts the autumn course Sept. 23rd. The topic 'Fitness and Health the 4 H Way!' Meetings will be 7:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m. at Beth Wilson's home, 281 Medd Road. Anyone who is 10 years old as of January 1, 1991 is welcome to come and join us. Leaders are Cathy Anderson 852-5503 and Beth Wilson 852-7437. Wear loose fitting clothing and running shoes to the meetings. See you all then. The Uxbridge Dairy Calf Club had their achievement day at Ux- bridge Fair on Saturday. Local club members are Robert Ashton, Tanya and Michael Wilson,, Mark Irwin and Wendy Evans. The leader of the calf club was Robert Evans. They are to be con- gratulated on their display to decorate the 4 H unit even to the scare crow with a bench for hime to sit one. The barbecue supper was a suc- cessful affair at Utica Friday evening served with our usual 'help yourself' style. On Sunday Earl and Elizabeth YMCA courses The preschoolers at the YMCA on Queen St. are lucky this fall. Their classes will be running on some brand new carpeting and flooring! Yup - circle time will definitely be more comfortable from now on. All the Y classes are starting up again next week and the instructors are looking for- ward to starting off a great new year. There are some terrific new programs offered like the preschool readiness class called "Alphabet Soup," an all day '"'Kindercare" class and a meeting spot for moms and little ones called '"The Loony Bin" that costs (you guessed it) a whole loony to join. The regular dance, gymnastics and floor hockey classes will also be starting soon in the local schools, and in the evenings at the Y there is voice, keyboarding, babysitting and craft classes, too. One class that didn't makeit in- to the brochure is a new "Fall Arts Camp' that is being offered for 8-12 year olds at the Y on Wednesdays. It runs October 23 to December 11 from 6-7:30 p.m. Our "artists" will paint, sketch and duly create a work of art that will be proudly exhibited at the Port Perry Star building upon completion. Another "'special" being offered this fall is a low impact aerobics class being offered two nights for 12 weeks for only $60. It starts September 24 at S.A. Cawker and there's still lots of room to sign up. Janice Evans and her friends Terry and Wendy of Markham visited her parents Ross and Barb Evans on Sunday afternoon. Stella and Donald Asling visited Stella's sister Elsie Garrill in Lindsay. Stella and Elsie's brother Joe Ryall visited at the same time. Congratulations to 4 H members and all in pur communi- ty who entered various categories at Uxbridge Fair. Dini Page is in Haliburton this week working on her Masters Weavers. Bethesda Reach W.I. has anin- vitation from Greenbank W.I. to their meeting September 24th at 7:30 p.m. Greenbank Hall to hear 0.P.P. Const. Gerry Smith. His topic is 'Tips for Women Travell- ing Alone.' On September 25th Bethesda Reach will meet at 7:15 at Ux- bridge Tree Nursery. The meeting will be at the home of Marg Bruce and the topic is Agriculture. Motto, we do not in- herit the land from our fathers but borrow it from our children. Rep- ly by Jean Smith. Baptism in church is on Sept. 29 Dd A Church and Sunday school will be held in Utica this week starting at 11:00 a.m. Don Simmons will be the guest speaker, assisted by the Youth Group. The Church Board were pleas- ed with the turnout at their sup- per on Friday evening and thank all those who made this event a success. There will be a service of Bap- tism in the United Church to be held on September 29th. Anyone interested in this service should contact Rev. Bewell. Plan to attend the euchre in Utica Hall this Friday starting at 8 p.m. The more the merrier. Congratulations to Jim and Nancy Sturman (nee Rudkin) on the birth of their daughter on September 4th in Port Perry Hospital. I was sorry to hear that Cassan- dra Aked had the misfortune to fall from a hammock and receive a hairline fracture to her collarbone.
