Or ----- trae ------ Tey -- "A Family Tradition for 125 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, September 10, 1991 - 3 "Take care of yourself when you're young," says 101-year-old man LS HEN ARTHUR EDMONDS 101 YEARS OLD Arthur Edmonds, who celebrated his 101th birthday on Sept. 4, told his secret for living a long life to the Port Perry Star. "You have to take care of yourself when you're young," he said. Mr. Edmonds, who is a resident of the Community Nursing Home, said he was always active, and worked until he was 86, when he had a stroke. But even the fact that he had to give up driving didn't slow him down. When he recovered, he travelled on the bus from P.E.L. to Victoria, and as far south as California. He was delighted that the staff at the nursing home had planned a sumptious birthday supper in his hon- or. : "It's going to be a big party," he said. "They are real- ly good to me here." OPPERS LTD. Council threatens to halt permit on senior's project By Scott Anderson The Township of Scugog Council is threatening to halt a building permit if its holder does not abide to its terms. At Monday's council meeting, members of council agreed to put a stop work order on Im- maculate Conception's senior's home project if it does not alter the storm sewage system pres- entlyin place. According to Ronn Mac Don- ald, Roads Superintendant, Im- maculate Conception has vio- lated a site plan agreement. Under the terms of a building agreement, Immaculate Con- ception's school parking lot, which is located in front of the site for the seniors home, was to be expanded and an internal storm drainage system was to be included. Instead it was built with a sheet flow design which is draining in an easternly direc- tioninto a residential area. Mr. MacDonald says barriers must be constructed as well to ensure the water flows to the The Port Perry Star Scugog Township's Award Winning Community Newspaper Awards for: BEST FRONT PAGE BEST EDITORIAL PAGE PHOTOGRAPHY « ADVERTISING BEST ALL ROUND PAPER sewage system. The township will work in conjunction with the building's planners Marshall Macklin and Monaghan to ensure that representatives from Immacu- late Conception are notified. Council has agreed to give the archdiocese's representa- tives two weeks to solve the problem before stopping the building permit. Mr. MacDon- ald said two weeks is enough time to alter the parking lot to conform to the building require- ments. He believes it is possible for them to salvage what is al- ready in place. Mayor Hall says this action will be taken to ensure that the construction is done properly. "If they don't prove that it's been done properly, then a stop order will be put in place," he said. Council has been frustrated for sometime by Immaculate Conception's refusal to abide by the building rules of the town- ship. This frustration showed at Monday's meeting. "They're not listening, and they haven't been listening for three years," said Mayor Hall.
