With the financial support of Country Style Donuts, Standard Broadcast- ing has put together a 28-page Guide to Fight Substance Abuse. The tabloid size guide is packed with Information on substance abuse, how to spot it, and how to prevent it. Copies of the guide are available free of charge at the Port Perry Country Style Donuts franchise at the corner of Simcoe and Scugog streets. Owner/operator Ken Carruthers told the Star he has received 10,000 copies of the guide. Any organization wishing to receive a number of the guides for distribution to their group may get copies from Mr. Carruthers. The first game of the day had Emmersons against Framers. Both teams had some chances but neither could come up with a goal as the game ended the way it started, tied at zero. Lar- ry Reurekas and Glen Archi- bald had shutouts. Game two saw the "new look" Monsma go down to defeat to Blackstock by a 2-0 score. Ron Short from Pratt and Wotten got Blackstock the first B&R and Blackstock victorious in broomball openers riod lead and Gord Bryans yi Pete. Keunning and Ron Short added the insurance with two minutes left in the game. Rick McClean recorded the shutout. The final game of the day saw Woodys host the defending champions B&R Swampers. The first period went end to end but ended still tied at zero. At 1:18 into the second period Mike Mitchell scored from Scott Heard. Dale Lown on a nice set up from Darren Caudle and Brian Pomeroy made it 2-0 for B&R, but Larry Moarse from Pat Cook and Neil Woo- drow madeit a 2-1 final. Birthday greetings to a for- mer neighbor Ada Stephenson who celebrated her 90th birth- day on Saturday at the home of Muriel Fisher in Ashburn.
